Liebherr tests new PowerBoom
The new PowerBoom from Liebherr the P-boom has been fitted on the 3,000- tonne LR 13000 crawler crane, and will be undergoing tests in the most widely differing configurations. In the meantime, two booms from this pioneering new line of development can be seen at the Liebherr plant site in Ehingen. On the LR 11350 the luffing jib is now being tested on the PowerBoom, following the successful acceptance test of different lengths of P-main booms as from last autumn.

With the PowerBoom, the lattice elements in the lower area are mounted parallel to one another, while at the top the double boom is merged together to form one single boom.

The true stroke of genius is that the lifting power of the crane can be enormously increased thanks to a simple mechanical supplementary system making use of standard lattice components. This applies not only to the main boom, but also to the luffing jib, because the P-boom causes the torsion torque moment to be substantially increased. This widens the scope of application a great deal, and the PowerBoom raises the crane into the next higher lifting capacity class.
