Afcons Infrastructure Ltd will carry out the tunnelling work for the underground stretch. The company has already carried out tunnelling work areas such as Anna Salai, Madras High Court and Saidapet. The Phase-I extension of Chennai Metro Rail will cover a 9-km stretch from Washermanpet to Wimco Nagar. The stretch from Washermanpet to Korukkupet will be underground.
