Energy-efficient Indl Motors
Siemens sets a new benchmark in energy-efficient industrial motors with the launch of the complete range of locally manufactured IE2 and IE3 efficiency class motors.

Siemens announced the launch of a range of energy-efficient industrial motors meeting the efficiency classes International Efficiency 2 (IE2) and IE3, as defined in the latest Indian standards IS: 12615-2011. These efficiency classes are also in line with the IEC 60034-30 (2008) and are effective in India from June 2011. As of now, IE3 is the highest efficiency class prevalent among the countries adopting International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards. The launch was announced by the Drive Technologies Division of Siemens? Industry Sector.

Siemens has an extensive range of IE efficiency class motors from 0.37-315 kW. These IE efficiency class motors will be an addition to its existing range of motors and are targeted at a wide range of industries.

The 1SE0 N and 1LA2 N IE efficiency class motors have been introduced to help energy intensive industries like cement, metals, mining, textiles, pulp and paper etc, achieve significant reduction in energy consumption and thus reduce their carbon footprint.

?In view of the prevailing power situation in the country, energy-efficient motors become highly critical for the continuing operation of industries. Currently, nearly 70 per cent of industrial power consumption is due to motors, and an energy-efficient motor will drive cost savings significantly. If all the motors that were manufactured and sold in India in one year were only high efficiency motors, the energy saved is equivalent to the energy produced by a 600 MW power plant in one full year,? said Dr Armin Bruck, Managing Director, Siemens.

IE efficiency class motors, as compared to the non-IE motors available in the market, offer substantial savings in energy. For example, when IE3 motors are used the customers can save anywhere up to ten per cent depending on the frame sizes. According to IEEMA, over two million motors are produced in India each year that together have an energy saving potential of more than 5 billion kWh of power if replaced with IE3 motors. Considering the investment for a 600 MW power plant these energy-efficient motors have the potential to save nearly Rs 3,500 crore for the country as a whole.
