Fed up with the lackadaisical attitude of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) regarding the upkeep of the approach roads to Gurgaon's Sector 21, the area residents last week wrote a letter to Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, seeking his intervention in the matter. In November, the CM of Haryana had visited the sector and ordered an immediate solution. The administrator had then promised that the road would be made in the next three months but not even a survey has been done till now, the Residents? Welfare Association (RWA), Sector 21 stated.

The approach roads to the sector have been an albatross around their neck for the past three decades. Despite making multiple promises of mending the roads, Huda has not taken any steps in this regard till now. Encroachment and a decades-long stay order have complicated matters further. The sector has five roads connecting it with the thoroughfares, including the Delhi-Gurgaon road, but none of the connectors are problem-free. Four of them have been encroached upon by the villagers of neighbouring Dunda Hera village, while the fifth outlet is caught in litigation.

This 90-metre road, which is to be constructed on Huda land, would serve as the main outlet from the sector connecting it directly with the main road. However, it is a part of a 28-acre plot of land which is under a Punjab and Haryana High Court stay order since 1984. School buses ply on the internal sector roads ? which are hardly wide enough for two cars moving side-by-side ? in the absence of a decent arterial road within the sector, the Association said.
