Nawa's focus is on the customer.
Mineral processing equipment will be a natural extension of our current offering and manufacturing capabilities. Hence this will be our main focus of expansion in 2013 onwards, says GN Raju, Managing Director, Nawa Engineers. Excerpts from the interview.

What is the anticipated demand for crushing and screening equipment (CSE) in the next 2-3 years? What CSE products will drive the market demand?
CSE address the supply requirements of the core infrastructure raw material inputs. The CSE sector has always been there but like any other industry in India addressing a core raw material supply requirement, this sector had its roots in the form of a cottage industry and today it is evolving leaps and bounds to meet the needs of massive construction activity in India. Requirement of aggregates is projected to increase by 8.85 per cent in 2013 and by nearly 10 per cent in 2014. In value terms, the market value for aggregates is around $4.5 billion in 2013 and $5 billion in 2014. CSE market will be about 13.5 per cent (at $607 million) in 2013 of the aggregates requirement by value. The requirement exists and has to be met if infra activity has to sustain across sectors. Demand was never a problem; offtake of products due to project delays was the actual problem.

How is Nawa Engineers positioned vis-a-vis the competition?
Nawa's strength lies in the fact that manufacturing CSE products in India brings about a huge cost reduction and hence provides a great space to be competitive with respect to foreign majors. Nawa has shown that CSE products can be manufactured to international qualities in India itself and its products have been evaluated and appreciated by international companies and competitors for quality adherence. Indian price ranges give a boost to Nawa's selling efforts and helps in keeping ahead of the competition. Our main focus is always to keep abreast of the latest production techniques across the world and to ensure that our quality effort matches the stringent requirements. Nawa's focus is on remaining customer-centric to cater to their expectations one hundred per cent. Nawa will maintain its position of being amongst the top four indigenous CSE products manufacturer in India. We expect to be Number One by 2015. The Chinese predatory pricing threat can also be overcome as we have seen a lot of our customers coming back due to our usage of the highest quality components in our products.

What are Nawa's plans to integrate itself with and modify existing lines?
Nawa has invested heavily into new manufacturing plants in Hyderabad which are retrofitted with the best machine tools available, to undertake manufacture of our products plus cater to our heavy fabrication works for our material handling and concrete placement projects in dams and cement projects. Our new workshops are spread across 15 acre in Hyderabad.

Could you elaborate on Nawa's recent acquisition of technical knowhow and global manufacturing rights of Duracone SRM cone crushers?
Nawa's acquisition of technical knowhow and global manufacturing right to the Duracone range of crushers gives it the crucial presence in the crushing range from 300 TPH to 700 TPH in India and abroad, as well. Duracone SRM cone crushers can handle the hardest of crushing applications and the technology of Louis Johnson is acknowledged to be the best in the world by the entire crushing community. These crushers will be pushed hard by Nawa as they can give the required aggregates yield in different sizes at the lowest power consumption rates for any competitive product. Nawa expects the market to accept these crushers in huge numbers.

Do you think that a well organised aggregate industry, which at present is fragmented and unorganised, will be of any help to CSE manufacturers?
It is natural that an organised and well structured central association of all quarries in all states working closely with the other infra sector bodies will be highly beneficial to lend some structured requirement planning of aggregates across states and projects. This will help immensely in planning issues of aggregates material sourcing and bridging shortages by defining a well structured suppliers across states addressing the supply demand situations. This will naturally bring in a structured demand for installations of CSE products across quarries leading to increased business for all CSE manufacturers.

How is the CE market in India set to grow in the next 2-3 years?  What are the sector's concerns that need to be addressed?
The CE sector is projected to grow at a robust rate of 17.25 per cent in 2013. As mentioned, the CSE sector can grow only if all the projects allocated start execution. In all sectors like roads and highways, urban development, and railways which are net consumers of aggregates; virtually all projects in 2012 were delayed due to a slowdown, governmental paralysis, shortage of ele?ctricity across states. This is affecting the growth of the CE sector itself, as well as the CSE sector.  Fast-tracking of all projects by the government is the need of the hour as infrastructure growth is the main contributor to the GDP of the country and can lead to a huge boost to the economy across sectors.

What are Nawa's expansion plans?
Nawa will be expanding its current product range to cover track-mounted versions also in 2013. Due to the market downturn in 2012, introduction of concrete batching plants have been deferred till conditions improve. Other CE products like cranes, loaders etc, will be done under a dealership basis and not on a manufacturing basis in partnership with related companies only after the market conditions see an upturn in 2013.

Mineral processing equipment will be a natural extension of our current offerings and manufacturing capabilities. Hence, this will be our main focus of expansion in 2013 onwards. Our products will be available from 2013 in India across various mining projects.

What are Nawa's plans for bC India 2013?
Nawa will be participating in the bc India 2013 with a 819 sq m outdoor stall and will exhibit its range of CSE and radial stacker products. Nawa will also participate in the Excon 2013 show in Bengaluru.
