Sambalpur to have a flyover to ease traffic congestion

In Odisha's Sambalpur, the Public Works Department has planned a flyover in the heart of the city, keeping in view the rising traffic. The proposed 700-metre overbridge will connect Church Road and Peerbaba Chhak and pass over Laxmi Talkies and Golebazaar Chhak, the two busy business hubs of the town. Though estimation of the project is yet to be finalised, officials said it would cost nearly Rs 20 crore to Rs 25 crore.

Sub-divisional Officer (SDO), PWD (R&B), PK Nath said that at present, the department is conducting soil testing for the project. After that it will prepare a design and an estimation of the project for approval of the government. Once the department receive the approval, it will begin the tendering process, he added. He informed that if everything goes as planned then construction of the project will begin next year.

The flyover will not only provide a modern look to Sambalpur but also solve the traffic problem to a great extent, Nath said. Sambalpur has one railway overbridge near Gangadhar Meher College, which connects Church Road and Budharaja.
