How is demand for OTR tyres evolving across mining, construction, quarrying, and industrial equipment categories?
The infrastructure push by the government has given an impetus to the construction sector in India, making it the primary driver of OTR market. Due to investments in large-scale projects like roads, bridges, ports, the need for durable, high traction tyres is at an all-time high and will continue to rise.
Similarly, the mining sector is a major consumer of OTR tyres, driven by the continuous demand for minerals and natural resources. This has led to a steady demand for larger, more durable, and heat-resistant radial tyres for heavy-duty haul trucks and loaders operating in extreme conditions.
At Galaxy, we have been at the forefront of serving our customers with our application specific portfolio catering to every need in the construction, material handling and earthmoving segment.
Are customers increasingly shifting toward radial OTR tyres? What are the drivers and barriers?
While India has traditionally been a bias tyre-dominated market with limited players offering all-steel radials, this technology is rapidly emerging as the preferred choice due to its performance and durability advantages. Backed by our specialised focus and access to advanced technologies through our Japanese parent group, we are well positioned to manufacture and supply all-steel radial tyres that meet the evolving needs of the market.
The key drivers behind this shift include superior durability and longer tread life, better fuel efficiency due to lower rolling resistance, enhanced traction and stability across varied terrains, and increased productivity through reduced downtime. Technological advancements such as advanced rubber compounds and integrated sensors for predictive maintenance are further accelerating adoption. However, the transition is moderated by certain barriers, including higher upfront costs compared to bias tyres, susceptibility of flexible sidewalls to damage in extremely harsh conditions, supply chain and manufacturing complexities, and limited awareness in some regions about the long-term cost and performance benefits of radial technology.
At our manufacturing facilities, we produce all-steel radial tyres using fully automatic building machines, robust production processes, and customised compound formulations. These all-steel OTR tyres deliver superior performance, extended service life, and higher load-carrying capacity—attributes that are critical for the construction and earthmoving industries. This capability is further strengthened by our comprehensive in-house testing infrastructure, which ensures that every tyre launched in the market is rigorously validated to withstand the demanding and diverse terrains across India.
What are the new products you showcased at Excon 2025?
Our presence at Excon coincides with a landmark moment—100+ years of Galaxy Tyres. This milestone has been driven by our customer-centric approach to innovation, agility, and a diverse product portfolio designed to address the evolving needs of our customers across applications.
At Excon, we unveiled our latest all-steel radial tyre innovations:
- LDSR 500 – Engineered for heavy-duty wheel loaders and dozers, the LDSR 500 features a non-directional tread pattern and extra-deep tread depth, delivering excellent stability, superior grip, and extended service life.
- RTSR 300 – Designed for rigid dump trucks operating in extreme conditions, the RTSR 300 is built to handle heavy loads across varied surfaces. Its open-shoulder design ensures superior traction and effective self-cleaning, while application-specific compound options ensure that these tyres are custom-built for tough jobs and diverse terrains.
