Our tools help achieve high level of surface finish.
- C Devaraj, Managing Director, Bright Burnishing Tools

How important is the component industry in terms of business?
As a part of India?s growth story, the components sector continues to strengthen itself. An important contributor to India?s GDP, the component industry in India is spreading its reach in the domestic as well as the export markets. Both, the domestic and the export markets are important for the growth of the Indian component industry, and generating direct and in direct employment.

What are the machine tool requirements from the components sector?
India has already proved its strength in manufacturing high value and high precision components. The machine tools that help to produce such components need to have the very attributes that make precision components highly acceptable. The machine tools required by the components sector thus have to reflect quality, accuracy, precision, etc. Also, more indigenisation (localisation) is necessary to be competitive on a global scale.

What are the major applications of your tools in the machining operations?
Our products, roller burnishing tools, are used to achieve very high levels of surface finish of up to 0.1 Ra. The machines are also capable of ensuring very high dimensional repeatability. They are therefore finding use in critical component manufacturing applications. The high quality surface finishes and dimensional consistency in mass production are achieved at a very low burnishing cost per piece and with quick cycle time.

Clients who use our products are capable of meeting very stringent quality requirements for their domestic and global market requirements. Also, our machines are competitively priced.

Could you brief us about your manufacturing facility?
The machine tools that we offer are manufactured in-house. We have the necessary infrastructure for manufacturing our products at Coimbatore. We ensure our quality by controlling the process right through to the final stage. Though our tools are special in nature, the specifications vary according to the requirements of the clients - the nature of components to be produced.

What are the challenges you face in local manufacture?
The challenges we face include highly fluctuating order flow, poor financial inflow and retention of talent. Unhealthy competition and complex tax structures are also affecting us.

A retrofitted lathe costs almost one-third the price of a new CNC machining centre.
