3M India announced the launch of 3M Cubitron TM II, the all new abrasive mineral technology. This radical technology is now a reality for the Indian metal working industry, a solution that cuts faster, grinds cooler and lasts longer.

3M CubitronTM II is a revolutionary technology that the 3M Abrasive Systems Division have developed using their three core technology platforms.Made out of ceramic aluminium oxide, these triangle shaped grains in the form of belts or discs divert heat to the metal filings, keeping both the workpiece and the belt cooler.Additionally, they are engineered to grind cooler, thus eliminating metal discolouration.Cubitron TM II has been developed based on the precision shaped grain technology (PSG) that enables each grain to self sharpen for extended cut life.

Each mineral in Cubitron TM II is designed in such a way that it breaks along while it grinds, thus providing a constant cutting edge and material removal rate during its lifespan, in the absence of heat.This contributes to the increase in productivity, finer finish, moderate grinding and capital costs, minimises waste disposal and decreased surface reworking, thus value adding at each step of the manufacturing operation.

CubitronTM II abrasive products are available in the form of fibre discs and belts depending on the usage.The CubitronTM II fibre discs 982C and 987C, similar to the belts, are one-stop solutions for manufacturers working with stainless steel and carbon steel.Available in different grades, they can easily slice through a weld bead which is typically 3-7 mm thick on typical steel substrates at a faster cutting speed, providing a much better finish, and at the same time, providing less fatigue to the operators who have to grind such weld beads, day in and day out.
