A Comprehensive Paving Solution
The newly launched Volvo 6820 paver provides a comprehensive paving solution for customers facing increasing demand for productivity and versatility in the road construction industry. The P6820 can pave up to 700 tonnes per hour and a width of up to nine meters, making it suitable for any number of applications, including municipal and main roads, highways, airfield and railway track construction and waste storage areas. It can also handle a range of materials, from the wearing course and binder course to base course and frost protection layers like CTB.
Because not all applications require full engine power, the P6820 has a smart power mode, which reduces engine RPM to match your job?s demands, and can result in fuel savings of up to 30 per cent. Reserve power is always plentiful, even at maximum paving widths and with extremely large loads. Engine power is effectively transferred to the road through a combination of wide crawler tracks and excellent weight distribution.
Since the ability to see all around the operator platform is important during any paving application, the P6820?s cab provides the best possible visibility, giving the operator a direct view into the hopper, the auger channel and the work area. The cab is also comfortable and user-friendly, with an adjustable seat and swivelling control panel. The latest Electronic Pavers Management II system (EPM II) helps the operator monitor all working functions, and engine data and fuel consumption are displayed on a colour screen, in a choice of languages. The EPM II contains a service interval as well as a settings manager, which saves information and settings for later times when similar conditions are present, saving time and increasing productivity and consistency. The EPM II console, screed control panel and auxiliary control panel can be removed and locked away when not in use for added security.
Industry-leading fixed and variable extending screeds are available, these provide a smooth, uniform surface in every pass, reducing the need for further roller compaction and providing a more even mat. Always flexible, Volvo screeds can work on bituminous, concrete base, aggregate and railway ballast material, and extensions can be added or removed quickly and without use of special tools, via Volvo?s quick coupling system. The dual-electric heating bar arrangement on variomatic screeds provides consistent and reliable heating. Fixed width screeds feature an efficient gas heating system and can be fitted with fixed and variable extensions. The patented screed load device prevents paving bumps by exerting pressure on the screed briefly, once paving begins. The larger hopper further increases paving efficiency, working in conjunction with the conveyor and large folding wings to avoid segregation and ensure a consistent mix of materials. The hopper has a capacity of 13.5 tonnes. An optional front hopper apron to empty material into the conveyor system virtually eliminates overspill. Independent, reversible hydrostatic drives, for both bar conveyors and augers, ensure the paving material is moved evenly to both sides of the screed. The optimum head of material is maintained in the auger channel by adjusting the height, speed and direction of the augers. This larger volume of throughput supports optimum mat quality regardless of width, thickness or paving speed, as well as continuous paving, such as under bridges.
Maintenance made easy
The P6820 simplifies maintenance, with improved service access from the large opening compartments on the deck to service points. An optional central lubrication system simplifies maintenance even further. Maintenance-free rubber pad-clad crawler units feature individual, electronically controlled drives for each track. A system monitors track movement and controls motor response to ensure that straight line and fixed radius work is accurate. This, combined with good weight distribution, ensures an efficient paving process.
