Garg, Executive VP & Head - Construction & Mining Machinery Business and Industrial Machinery Business, Larsen & Toubro, was awarded as the ‘Equipment India Person of the Year 2021’ at the 9th edition of the Equipment India Awards – a calendar event for all construction equipment industry stalwarts – held this year on October 22 at Four Seasons, Mumbai. The awards are organised by EQUIPMENT INDIA, the largest circulated construction equipment magazine in India.

The 9th edition of Equipment India Awards was part of the 7th INDIA CONSTRUCTION FESTIVAL (ICF) organised by FIRST COUNSTRUCTION COUNCIL (FCC), an infrastructure think-tank set up in 2003, focused on providing latest updates on the construction industry in India, and dedicated to promoting its causes and needs. FCC provides a platform to promote the adoption of best practices and to be the torchbearer for all policy initiatives that are needed to enhance the importance and welfare of the construction industry and the industry’s unified voice.

With a diverse experience of 35 years in Larsen & Toubro Group, Mr. Garg’s responsibilities include the activities of L&T’s Rubber Process Machinery and Product Development Centre.

In his long association with the Construction & Mining Equipment Industry, Mr. Garg has worked closely from L&T with the global majors like Komatsu-Japan and Scania-Sweden, to usher in world-class technologies and products in the Indian market. He was instrumental in introducing a slew of initiatives that saw L&T ramp up parts operations, rejig supply chain management and help improve the operational efficiency and asset management. He is now championing the cause of digitalisation with innovative solutions driven to enhance customer satisfaction.

As a Director on the Board of L&T’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Mr. Garg heads L&T Construction Equipment Limited (LTCEL), which manufactures Hydraulic Excavators, Wheel Loaders, Vibratory Compactors and high-quality Hydraulic Components. He is spearheading L&T’s active role in product indigenization and has nurtured new products and new markets as part of the Make-in-India initiative and paving the way for Atmanirbhar Bharat. He functioned earlier as the President of the Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers Association (ICEMA) and transformed the body into the most credible face of Indian Construction Equipment Industry. He led an active role in the industry relating to recommendations on issues of emerging trends, indigenisation, imports, taxation, emission norms and in establishing a level-playing field.

Presently, Mr. Garg is the Chairman of Infrastructure Equipment Skill Council (IESC) and promoting skill building among various stakeholders. He is collaborating with government agencies to provide impetus for industry-specific skills through a host of initiatives at the national level, which has seen the members involve in skill development in a big way.

Mr. Garg is also the driving force encouraging safe operating practices in the CE industry, strengthening relationships with the global CE forums and promoting technological competitiveness in the local industry. He is on the CII’s (Confederation of Indian Industry) high-powered Steering Committee for major exhibitions like Excon, ConMac and is Chairman of Bauma Conexpo India Task Force.
