Coal price may rise in global market

Some reports indicate that the price of coal in the global market may rise by atleast $2-3 per tonne in the coming months because of decline in supply and rise in demand from India.

Current going rate of 3,800 kcal per kg GAR and 4,200 kcal per kg GAR is $37-37.50 per tonne FOB and about $43.75 per tonne FOB respectively.

As the capacity of thermal power production rises, India may import more coal from abroad to run the new power plants.

Power plants in India import coal largely from Indonesia. Shortage of coal in the domestic market may rise during monsoon as production from Coal India, the nation's largest coal miner, declines in this 5 month period.
