Maintenance of the Manali-Leh border road is important from the defence point of view and it will be complete up to Sarchu till 2018. He added that BRO had been making this border road, a double-laned road as well as had been carrying out the metalling of the road for the past several years.

He said dozens of small and big bridges were being constructed on the Manali-Leh border road between Manali and Sarchu. He said if the weather conditions remained favourable, this border road would be ready by 2018. The commander added that some of the big bridges had been completed, while many bridges were under construction on the Manali-Leh border road.

He said most of the work on widening the Manali-Rohtang border road had been completed, while the remaining work was being carried out. He further said the stretch of the border road at Rohtang Pass carrying debris had been repaired and treated by BRO. He said the bridges had been completed at Bahang, Palchan and Kothi, while the construction of other bridges was in progress.
