Escorts Chairman Rajan Nanda passes away
Chairman and Managing Director of Escorts Limited, Rajan Nanda, passed away on August 5, 2018 after a brief illness. He was 76 years.
Nanda joined Escorts in 1965 at the age of 23, and in 1994, he took over as the Chairman of Escorts Group, when his father and the founder Chairman, HP Nanda, stepped down after a 50-year long innings.
Under his stewardship, Escorts introduced new technologies in various businesses to spearhead the growth to the next level, and today, the group is moving ahead in the high growth areas of agri-machinery, construction equipment and railway equipment. Nanda was also instrumental in setting up the state-of-the-art R&D facility for Escorts at Faridabad, which today is the bedrock for innovation and new product development which is making Escorts an exporter to the world.
Nanda?s strong belief in the unlimited potential of self, prompted him to strive and create a culture in Escorts that encourages and supports performance, teamwork, innovation and leadership. He firmly believed that the welfare of business is intertwined with the welfare of the society. He had proactively pursued the cause of education, health and welfare of the society at large.
Nanda was an active member of several apex trade and industry bodies. As a member of the CII National Council, he had served as Chairman of its Agriculture Committee.
