Goa government is taking steps to address the issue of illegal mining in the state and it would apprise the Supreme Court about the measures taken by when the matter comes up for hearing on July 10, reports indicate.

Among the measures initiated by the state are adoption of differential global positioning systems (DGPS) mapping, regularization of dumps, e-filling.

The state government is learnt to have addressed mining issues in four areas out of the six areas of concern. The state government would the rest will as an when required, reports indicate.

Further, the state government would request the apex court to allow legal mining to begin in the state.

Grey areas in mining should be monitored and the government will take action against illegal mining, the state Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is learnt to have said in a media.

Following the submission of the Justice MB Shah Commission report in the Parliament, mining activities in the state were stalled. The state government stopped mining operations in September 2012 to verify documents of mines.
