India’s push towards zero-emission heavy mobility is accelerating

V Senthil Kumar, Managing Director, Propel Industries

Propel unveiled a wide electric portfolio at Excon 2025. What was the core intent behind these launches?

The intent was to address real operating requirements in heavy-duty mining and construction environments. Every platform we introduced focuses on productivity, long-term operating economics, safety and reliability. Our objective is to strengthen India’s electric heavy-duty ecosystem with solutions that operators can depend on in demanding conditions.

With these four new models, we now offer the country’s most comprehensive range of electric tippers for mining and construction. The portfolio spans different payload classes and duty cycles, allowing customers to adopt electric hauling solutions across coal, overburden, limestone, iron ore, quarrying and waste management applications.

Which application segments are driving adoption of electric tippers today?

Adoption is gaining traction across mining, quarrying and infrastructure-linked hauling. Since entering the EV truck segment in 2023, our vehicles have been deployed in coal, limestone, iron ore, stone quarry, marble, granite and solid waste operations. These are high-duty, multi-shift applications where uptime and predictability are critical.

What role does digitalisation play in Propel’s electric strategy?

Digital visibility is essential for electric fleets. Pulse.ev, our in-house developed connectivity platform, enables real-time vehicle health monitoring, energy consumption tracking, predictive maintenance and fleet optimisation. This is particularly important for multi-shift mining and hauling operations where downtime directly impacts productivity.

Electric fleets require structured, predictable support models. Pro EV Care is designed as a modular, multi-tier service programme that offers uptime assurance, predictable operating costs and customised on-site support. This helps customers manage the transition to electric mobility without operational uncertainty.

How do you see the broader market context for electric heavy-duty vehicles in India?

India’s push towards zero-emission heavy mobility is clearly accelerating. Globally, high-capacity electric trucks are becoming mainstream, and India is following a similar trajectory. With our 2025 portfolio, we believe Propel is well positioned at the forefront of indigenously engineered, electric heavy-duty transportation for mining and construction.
