Manipur govt mulls to widen all key roads in state

The Manipur government has sent a proposal to the Union government for upgradation of Jiribam-Churachandpur Road and widen all important roads in the state, the State Works Minister Kh Ratankumar said. The Minister was speaking as chief guest at a foundation laying ceremony for an RCC Bridge which is to be constructed over Khuga River to connect Lamjangphai and Thingchom in Churachandpur district on June 6.

Ratankumar said that the State government is planning to improve the condition of the roads in the State, both in the hills and the plains along with widening them to facilitate connectivity. The road widening process will start from the National Highways to make it 100 feet wide in the residential areas and 150 feet along the stretch of non-residential areas. Stating that widening of the roads is to be taken up in the interest and welfare of the people, Ratankumar observed that along with the increase in population, the need to widen the roads has become essential.

The Minister appealed to all concerned not to construct houses on khasland located along both sides of the NHs as they will be dismantled for road widening. The people cooperation to the government in taking up such developmental works, he added.
