Manitowoc 7000 at river bridge proj
A Manitowoc 7000 is taking centre?stage on the con?struction of a cable-stayed bridge in St. Louis, Miss?ouri, that will span the Mississippi River. The 350 USt capacity crane is being used to construct two to?wers that will support the bridge. The Manitowoc 7000 is pedestal-mounted on a 93 ft x 195 ft barge. It is being used to lift pre?assembled rebar cages into place. These cages will form the base for the two 406 ft towers that will sup?port the bridge. The crane will perform over 70 rebar cage lifts, weighing from 45,000 to over 100,000 lb.

The crane is currently configured with 325 ft of main boom and a 60 ft jib. As the project progresses, the crane will be recon?figured with 400 ft of main boom and 60 ft of jib to provide a tip height of 460 ft. The $229 million Missi?ssippi River Bri?dge project is a new four-lane bridge cro?ssing the Mississippi River con?nec?ting do?w?n??town St. Louis and southwestern Illinois that, when com?pl?ete, will be part of Inter?state 70.

With a 1,500 ft main span, it will be the third-largest cable-?stayed bridge in the US. The bridge will be open to traffic in 2014.
