Milling and recycling
The W 50 DC Wirtgen small milling machine sets standards in the 50-cm class.

For decades, the name Wirtgen has been synonymous with innovative, high-quality milling technology worldwide. The company offers its customers a complete range of products that leaves nothing to be desired and is unrivalled in the international market. Since it appeared on the market, the W 50 DC has set standards in the 50-cm class with its low operating costs, sophisticated technology and rugged design.

The first thing that strikes anyone seeing this generation of small milling machines from Wirtgen is their distinctive and unmistakable Wirtgen design. The compact W 50 DC is an all-rounder for contractors and milling service providers. It is primarily used for tie-in work, removing pavement strips, cutting grooves, partial pavement repairs, clearing manhole covers and milling concrete. The W 50 DC is driven by a Deutz engine rated at 92 kW and can achieve a milling depth of up to 210 mm.

The quick change system for milling drums, also known as the Flexible Cutter System (FCS), permits the use of many different milling drum widths and tool spacing, as well as customised forms. Since the milling drums are easily replaced, the W 50 DC can be used for different milling jobs within a very short space of time. At present, there are more than 60 different special-purpose and standard milling drums available altogether, including some with special scraper blade systems. Full milling depth is assured at all times, even when working with reduced milling width or with special milling drums. Corresponding units and the necessary know-how are also available for special applications, such as milling steep slopes. This considerably greater flexibility clearly sets Wirtgen apart from the competition.

Ergonomic design and operating convenience

For the machine operator, these versatile small milling machines offer hitherto unknown comfort and ergonomic design. One feature that stands out particularly is the spacious and comfortable operator's platform with its considerable legroom. The seat can be individually adjusted and even displaced beyond the side of the machine. The steering wheel can be angled as required so that the milling machine can be operated when seated or standing. The most important operating functions are ergonomically integrated into the right-hand armrest. Maximum safety is assured by a perfectly clear view of the milled edge.

Effective features

Milling processes are optimised by infinite adjustment of the engine speed and milling drum speed. Working in cramped conditions is simplified by small turning radii and aided by the versatile LEVEL PRO grade and slope control system. This system meets the highest quality standards and can also be used with 3D and laser equipment. During milling operations, for example, the WIDRIVE machine control system automatically switches on the water spray system when required and ensures that it is deactivated when the milling work ceases. This reduces water consumption by between 30 per cent and 40 per cent. All-automatic deactivation of the belt drive when reversing the milling machine in travel mode is a particularly useful feature when changing lanes, as it prevents the loss of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) which would then have to be cleared from the lane again.

The machine operator's work is made even easier by the new hydraulic cutting tool extractor with which the cutters can be replaced even more quickly.

The Wirtgen Group's leading position in the world market is underlined by its continuous pioneering effort in further developing the range of small milling machine products and particularly the W 50 DC. A sheer pleasure to drive, thanks to the comfortable seat, clear view of the zero side and individual adjustments. The W 50 DC stands out through its user-friendly operating concept and practical arrangement of operating elements on the main console and armrest.

The rumble strip equipment is an optional extra. This safety equipment cuts so-called rumble strips into the pavement beside the hard shoulder. When vehicles drive over this modified surface, it informs the drivers that they are about to change lanes.

Wirtgen Recycler: WR 240i

The new WR 240i stands for top quality on every job. With a 6-cylinder Cummins engine rated at up to 477 kW / 608 PS, the new generation of Wirtgen cold recyclers and soil stabilisers are not only extremely powerful, but also cover a correspondingly large range of applications. With the world's largest range of recycler and soil stabiliser products, Wirtgen can offer exactly the right solution for every application. The WR 240i is the fleet's specialist for powerfully stabilising large areas of insufficiently cohesive soil. In cold recycling, it demonstrates its prowess in reusing resources 100 per cent when processing defective asphalt pavements. Numerous new features put it at the top of the class in terms of efficiency and economy. Machine output has been optimised by powerful motorisation with high torque reserves while engine power is transmitted directly and effectively, benefiting its milling performance. Nine different rotor speeds guarantee optimum mixing performance, aided also by ultramodern computer-controlled metering technology with automatic monitoring to ensure exactly the right mix.

A spacious modern cabin with camera system and a driver's seat that can be turned through 90? ensure that the machine operator always has a clear all-round view of the machine and the job site. The cabin with large windows can be displaced beyond the right-hand edge of the machine, permitting a perfect and direct view of the milled edge. All-wheel steering and a separate steering angle on the rear axle ensure an extremely small turning radius permitting swift manoeuvring at the end of short passages and in confined spaces.

Technical improvements focus not only on driving comfort but also on easy operation. As a result, the operator can now control all the main basic functions easily and conveniently via the highly responsive multi-functional joystick in the right-hand armrest. Automated processes, such as automatic lowering and raising of the milling and mixing rotor, the ergonomically designed workplace and the innovative reverse assist function, make life vastly more convenient for the operator and improve daily performance.

Cold recycling and soil stabilisation simplified. The WR 240i stands out through higher performance, high efficiency and easy handling.
