The new brand identity, Tata Hitachi Construction Machinery Company, marks an important milestone in shaping the future trajectory of Telcon.

Telcon is now Tata Hitachi Construction Machinery Company.  The new brand identity was launched recently at a grand ceremony at the Kharagpur plant of the company in West Bengal. This is the third manufacturing facility of the company after Jamshedpur and Dharwad. The ceremony was graced by the presence of PM Telang, Chairman, Ranaveer Sinha, Managing Director, board members and other senior officials representing the company and from Hitachi Construction Machinery, Japan.

The announcement of the new brand identity marks an important milestone in shaping the future trajectory of the company. The dynamic composite mark captures strength and vitality of two powerful brands, Tata and Hitachi. The Tata name embodies 'Leadership with Trust' and stands for a distinct value system and ethics. HCM symbolises the Japanese quality ethic, articulated very succinctly as `reliable solutions` with the parent Hitachi setting a bold new standard `Inspire the next` that will infuse the next generation and future societies.

Telcon, originally a division of Tata Motors, has been in the forefront of the construction equipment business since the early 60s. A technical collaboration with Hitachi Construction Machinery (HCM) Japan started in 1984 for the manufacture of world-class hydraulic excavators in India. The construction equipment business was made an independent entity in 1999 and over the years HCM acquired stake in this entity, currently at 60 per cent, the rest being with Tata Motors.

The product range of the company addresses the critical infrastructure buil?ding activity in the country.  Telcon's equip?ment are present across diverse applications such as roads, power projects, irrigation works, urban infrastructure and agriculture applications. Telcon also caters to the mining and quarrying sector. Over the 50 years that the company has served these segments, Telcon has carved a niche in the   construction equipment space.

The fusion of these powerful identities in the Tata Hitachi brand energises and revitalises the company's continued quest to provide quality equipment with the latest technologies to the infrastructure and mining segments so vital to the nation's progress.

A stellar example of this journey is the building of a world-class manufacturing facility, incorporating eco-friendly technologies at Kharagpur which is a pioneering and historic effort in this region. Developed on an area of about 250 acre, this plant is a landmark development which has earned Kharagpur a place of pride on the industrial map of India. It is fully geared up to meet domestic and international demand, and along with its state-of-the-art R&D centre, it is poised to become one of the largest integrated construction equipment plants worldwide.

The company has also taken initiatives to usher in a host of other Japanese companies to set up production bases in the adjacent Vendor Park. These initiatives will transform the region economically, providing livelihoods and improving the quality of life in the area. This upliftment is already evident in the improvement of education infrastructure? a school supported by the company in the nearby Rupnarayanpur town has bagged the coveted Sishu Mitra Vidyalaya Purashkar awarded by UNICEF, Department of Education, Government of West Bengal and Paschim Banga Sarba Siksha Mission. Numerous other social and rural development programmes and multiple skill development initiatives are underway at Kharagpur. These will definitely pave the way for a new era of development in the region.
