New Trelleborg Facility
Trelleborg inaugurates a new facility to support continued growth in India?s rail, off- highway, energy and telecommunications industries.

Trelleborg, a leading developer and manufacturer of industrial anti-vibration systems and specialty moulded components, recently opened its new, state-of-the-art facility in Bengaluru. The specialised production of industrial anti-vibration systems and moulded components will allow the organisation to continue to develop its platform for local presence in the region and growth in India?s growing rail, off highway, energy, telecommunications and other industries.

?With the high level of growth expected from the Indian market, this facility will place Trelleborg in the strongest position to provide world class en?gi?neering and service capabilities and support growth for our major customers in this important region,? said Mikael Fryklund, President, Trelleborg Industrial Solutions.

?The plant is a joint initiative between two business units, BU Trelleborg Industrial AVS, and BU Trelleborg Moulded Components, and the reason for the establishment is to grow with our existing customers and to be able to serve locally in India. With the constantly growing market in India, we of course also look forward to attract new customers when we now are established here in India,? said  Fryklund. He further added, ?The plant is aimed for industrial anti-vibration products for the rail, off-highway and industrial segments, and on the other hand for cable entries and other moulded products for telecom, electrical power and industrial segments. Our business model is based upon in-depth market insight, innovative customer solutions with advanced customer service and production excellence. With this plant we will be able to serve our clients in India according to our business model which will mean a big leap into another dimension with respect to higher service levels.?

?We have great ambitions in India.

We believe India is an emerging superpower, a country which will in the next 10 -15 years be on the top three economies in the world. It was therefore an easy decision within Trelleborg to invest in India, in this new manufacturing facility so that we can be closer to our existing European customers who have a presence in India and also offer greater value to our Indian customers,? said Denis Blanc, Business Unit President, Trelleborg Industrial Antivibration Systems. ?Within the coming years we plan to not only expand our manufacturing base but also offer full applications, engineering and design services for our customers from this facility,? Blanc added.

?We are committed to expanding our presence aggressively here in India. We have earlier this year inaugurated a new Trelleborg Sealing Solutions site including a digital technology and service centre here in Bengaluru. Moreover, our Trelleborg Engineered Systems engineering and design centre of excellence for marine fender and mooring systems in Ahmedabad will help Trelleborg to contribute to the upcoming renewal and expansion of ports in India and globally,? said Patrik Romberg, Senior Vice President ? Corporate Communications, Trelleborg Group.

Patrik added, ?Trelleborg is an industrial group with local presence and global reach. Our broad and in-depth polymer engineering competence and application technology expertise combines with our innovative and reliable solutions and systems, a great foundation to meet the needs of customers worldwide. Our materials expertise is based on constantly developing and adapting the properties of polymer materials, properties such as resistance, friction and flexibility. We have more than 100 years of tradition of delivering solutions to customer-specific requirements.?

Said Mikael, ?Our ambition is to be a full-service partner in India with a local presence in manufacturing, engineering (R&D and design) and high quality services. In addition to current market segments, we are investigating to expand our other businesses where suitable into the Indian market. ?According to him, during 2011, net sales amounted to EUR 55 million.

?In general, we expect growth to be in line with the general market for the next years.  In general terms, some four per cent of annual turnover is devoted to research and development (R&D).R&D is conducted at three levels. The first level comprises fundamental physical and chemical materials know-how concerning polymers and other materials. The second level involves applications expertise within the Group?s global market segments. The third level is the specific design of products and solutions. We will continue to invest in R&D in India. We see that as an important element when striving to become a full service partner in India, meaning being able to offer local presence, manufacturing, engineering (R&D and design) and high quality services.?

Mikael further added, ?Our clear ambition is to be number one or two in our selected market segments. That goes for all Trelleborg businesses worldwide. For recently established businesses such as in India, this might not be the case today, but our clear ambition in the near future.?

This new facility of 2,600 sq m is co-hosted with Trelleborg moulded components and was part of an earlier Trelleborg Sealing solutions facility. This facility incorporates a metal preparation line, spray line, moulding - injection and transfer moulding, finishing line and fully equipped lab facility for prototyping and testing. The processes, quality standards, and materials used in this plant will be exactly identical to the company?s operations in Europe; employees have been trained extensively locally and in Europe and are highly skilled and capable to manufacture products to the same standards as other global Trelleborg locations.

The investment is part of Trelleborg?s continued long-term strategy to invest in markets with favourable growth potential. Using proven leading-edge development and manufacturing processes, the site, that covers a total of 2,800 sq m/ 30,000 sq ft, will include full end-to-end processing capabilities including metal preparation, injection moulding and post moulding preparation as well as test laboratory facilities for material and product testing.

The facility is part of the Trelleborg Engineered Systems business area and it will initially employ around 40 people, with the number to be increased in the near future. ?The facility in Bengaluru brings a significant increase in the local support capabilities for our customer base in the country, allowing easier access to our manufacturing expertise and vastly decreasing our reaction times to local product and service needs,? says Ranadip Basu, Facility Manager, Trelleborg Industrial Solutions, India.

Trelleborg and Trelleborg Vibracoustic, the joint venture in antivibration solutions for light and heavy vehicles, have manufacturing facilities in Bengaluru, Noida and Chandigarh. These develop, manufacture and supply hydraulic and pneumatic sealing systems for fluid power, automotive and aerospace among others, and industrial antivibration systems to the rail sector, for example, and specialty moulded components for various industrial segments. A centre of excellence for engineering and design focusing on marine fenders and mooring systems is located in Ahmedabad. In addition, there are several regional sales and support offices to effectively cultivate the local market. Trelleborg sales in 2011 amounted to approximately SEK 490 million ($76 million, EUR 55 million).

Explained Patrik, ?Trelleborg invests and develops rapidly in the important growth markets globally. And today marks another very important stage in fulfilling that objective. We have been in Bengaluru since 1998, and now we open yet another production facility in this area. In this city, we are currently combining production, marketing, customer service, and development capacity. The economic development in this part of the world is really stunning, and we believe the Indian as well as some of the other Asian markets will continue to boom.?

Trelleborg has developed into a world leader in this industry. Currently, the company has about 15,500 employees in more than 40 countries. In India, it now employ about 1,000 people, and this number will certainly keep growing.
