Official calls for strict compliance in ore mining

Regulation and strict compliance are required to bring back the golden era of iron ore mining, Rahul Guha, Director General of Mines Safety, Dhanbad said while addressing an event.

Guha was addressing the Mining Engineers? Association of India meet on ?Iron Ore Mining in India: Present Challenges and Future Prospects? at Hospet, Karnataka.

He underlined the need for regulation and strict compliance in order to address the "unprecedented illegal mining".

He also stressed on the need for having robust safety standards in mining and suggested strong and sustained efforts on the way labour is oriented and the way regulations are implemented in a mechanized work environment.

This change over is dictated by the demands of society and we need to recognize, as mining professionals the strict compliance of safety standards in mining operations, he said.

Safe practices, Guha said is non negotiable in modern, scientific and systematic mining. Need rigorous implementation of safety and health management system.
