Our focus will be on strengthening our presence in India
Joydeep Baksi, Associate Vice President, HD Construction Equipment India

What are the key products or technologies you are showcasing at bauma ConExpo India, and what makes them particularly relevant to the evolving needs of Indian customers?
At bauma ConExpo India 2026, HD Construction Equipment India will showcase its latest products, technologies, and solutions designed to support the next phase of growth in India’s construction, infrastructure, agriculture, and quarrying sectors.

A key highlight of our participation will be the introduction of new products and solutions that mark an important new phase for us in the agriculture and quarrying segments. While we would like to keep some details under wraps until the exhibition, visitors can expect to see product innovations specifically aligned with the evolving requirements of these applications at Stall No. O.F-10 at the expo.

The showcase will also feature the SMART PLUS range and the SMART X Plus Series, including excavators, mini excavators, and wheel loaders designed to deliver productivity, efficiency, durability, and performance across diverse operating conditions. Our focus is increasingly on application-specific solutions that help customers achieve higher output while managing operating costs and maximising machine uptime.

What major shifts are you seeing in customer demand, such as automation, digitalisation, fuel efficiency, alternative fuels and lower operating costs, and how is your product strategy responding to these trends?
Customer expectations are evolving rapidly, with the focus shifting from simply acquiring equipment to achieving higher productivity, greater machine utilisation, improved fuel efficiency, and lower operating costs over the entire equipment lifecycle. Customers are increasingly looking for solutions that deliver measurable value and a strong return on investment.

Digitalisation and smart technologies are playing an increasingly important role in this transition. Telematics, intelligent monitoring, and advanced control systems can enable customers to track machine performance, optimise utilisation, plan maintenance proactively, minimise downtime, and improve overall productivity.

Our product strategy is therefore focused on bringing together productivity, durability, efficiency, and intelligence. As customer requirements continue to evolve, we believe the machines of the future will need to do more than perform; they will need to deliver measurable value throughout their operating life. This will be supported by a strong ecosystem of service, genuine parts, and digital solutions that help customers maximise machine uptime and lifecycle value.

India is emerging as both a major construction equipment market and an export hub. What are your plans to expand manufacturing and exports from India over the next few years?
India has strong potential to become an important manufacturing and export base for construction equipment, supported by the country’s growing domestic market, infrastructure development, manufacturing capabilities, and skilled workforce.

Our focus will be on strengthening our presence in India by continuing to develop products suited to local applications and customer requirements, while also building capabilities to support broader market opportunities.

As the Indian construction equipment ecosystem develops, we see opportunities to further integrate India into our global value chain. Our priorities will remain focused on product competitiveness, quality, localisation, and building the capabilities required to serve both Indian and international customers effectively.

With global trade uncertainties, geopolitical tensions and changing tariff dynamics, how are you managing supply chains, costs and localisation to remain competitive?
Global trade and geopolitical developments have made supply-chain resilience and cost competitiveness increasingly important for the industry. Our approach is to strengthen localisation wherever commercially and technically viable, while maintaining the quality and reliability expected from our products.

We are also focused on developing a more resilient supply chain by working closely with suppliers and continuously evaluating sourcing and manufacturing strategies. Greater localisation can help improve supply-chain responsiveness, manage costs, and reduce exposure to global disruptions.

At the same time, competitiveness cannot come at the expense of quality or reliability. Our objective is to maintain the right balance between localisation, operational efficiency, supply-chain resilience, product quality, and customer value. This will help us remain competitive while building a stronger and more sustainable business for the long term.
