SCCL to expand Telangana power plant
Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) awarded a Rs 5,817-crore contract to BHEL for the expansion of its 1,200-MW coal-fired thermal power plant at Jaipur in Mancherial district of Telangana, proposing an additional unit of 800 MW. The Board of Directors of SCCL met recently, approved the expansion plan.

The project entails setting up of an 800-MW super critical thermal power plant as an EPC contract covering boiler, generator and turbine (BTG) package. BHEL was earlier the contractor for the two existing units of 600 MW each. It has now been awarded the contract by the state government on nomination basis, as it is a state-owned enterprise.
The 1,200-MW thermal power plant was completed after the new state of Telangana was formed. It has been functioning at a high plant load factor and has been playing a major role in energy security of the new state.
