SECL CMD Inaugurates Caterpillar Truck Simulator at Gevra
Gmmco, a leading solutions provider for the infrastructure, mining and energy sectors, has inaugurated an advanced Caterpillar Truck Simulator Facility and the Gmmco Shield safety application at the SECL Gevra Project in Chhattisgarh.
The facilities were inaugurated by Harish Duhan, Chairman and Managing Director, South Eastern Coalfields (SECL), in the presence of SK Mishra, General Manager, Gevra Area, Anuj Keoliya, Head – Mining, Gmmco, and senior officials from SECL, Gmmco and Caterpillar.
During the visit, Harish Duhan experienced the truck simulator, reviewed Caterpillar equipment and dozer solutions, and interacted with teams implementing technology-led initiatives at the mine site.
The advanced Truck Simulator Facility provides operators with a safe and controlled environment to develop practical skills, improve familiarity with machine operations and strengthen safety practices without operational risks. The initiative is aimed at enhancing operator confidence, ensuring consistent skill development and improving productivity. Shri Harish Duhan appreciated Gmmco’s use of simulation technology to build a more capable and safety-conscious workforce.
He also reviewed Caterpillar VisionLink, anti-collision technologies, the newly launched Gmmco Shield safety application and a prototype of the SafeOps Monitoring System. The Gmmco Shield app is designed to strengthen structured safety practices, while the SafeOps prototype enables digital pre-start safety checks to improve operator accountability and machine safety.
A key highlight of the visit was Shri Harish Duhan’s interaction with Gmmco’s women Graduate Engineer Trainees engaged in equipment condition monitoring at the SECL mine site. Using the Caterpillar Foresight platform along with VisionLink, oil analysis and inspection data, the engineers help identify potential issues early, enabling predictive maintenance, improved equipment availability and reduced downtime.
Impressed by their contribution, he felicitated the women engineers and encouraged greater participation of women in mining, recognising Gmmco’s initiative as a model aligned with the Ministry’s vision for increased diversity in the sector.
Harish Duhan said, “I am particularly impressed by Gmmco’s efforts in using advanced digital solutions to strengthen safety, operator capability and predictive maintenance. It is equally encouraging to see women engineers making significant contributions in equipment condition monitoring at the SECL mine site. Their work serves as an excellent example of how greater diversity can strengthen the mining sector, and I encourage wider participation of women in mining in line with the Ministry’s vision, with Gmmco setting a commendable role model. Technology, if combined with proper human skills, have the power to transform the mining sector.”
