Shinde assures protection to power equipment industry
The Union Minister of Power Sushilkumar Shinde assured the Indian power equipment industry of adequate protection. He was talking at the inaugural fun?ction of ELECRAMA 2012 in Mumbai organised by Indian Electricals and electronics manufacturing Association (IEEMA).

The minister said that the Indian power industry is at the cusp of major growth with 80,000 MW of power units under construction. The domestic equipment manufa?cturing industry has grown substantially to fully meet the domestic power generation de?mand. The T&D players have the contemporary technology and have established them?selves globally. ?However, the built-up equipment capa?city stands under utilised across several products, as there has been a surge in imports in recent time,? said Ramesh Chandak, President, IEEMA. He reque?sted the Union Minister to create a level pla?ying field for domestic electrical manu?facturers.

In his concluding remarks, Shinde stressed that the govern?ment is keen to enhance super critical manufacturing ca?p?a?city such as new joint ven?ture com?panies to be formed to manufa?cture supercritical boi?l?ers and turbines for power plants.
