Solid Performance
The new Cat 770G and Cat 772G off-highway trucks deliver solid performance and superior reliability and durability.

The new Cat? 770G off-highway truck is a 40-tonne class model designed and built for demanding construction, quarry and mining applications. The 770G features an efficient Cat engine and drive train configured to deliver high production and low cost per tonne of material hauled. An extensive list of options enables customers to configure their trucks to match their applications and their business objectives.

The 770G builds on the proven performance of the 770, which was introduced in 2006 and accumulated hundreds of thousands of hours moving materials. The 770G expands that legacy with manufacturing availability from India, allowing Caterpillar to better serve customers in China, India and Asia.

The 770G incorporates many features to enhance performance and safety and reduce lifecycle costs. At the heart of the new truck is the Cat C15 ACERTTM engine, which produces 365 kW (489 hp) and is available with two different emissions control strategies to suit the customer's needs.

Eric Hardin, Product Manager, Hauling Systems - Growth Markets Caterpillar Mining Products Division said, "We see great prospects for continued growth in mining equipment sales in India as the demand for coal and metal is relatively high. The mining industry in India is already large by global standards, and the installed base of mining equipment is also massive, which indicates incremental growth in production leading to significant mining equipment sales. For Caterpillar we are tapping this segment crucially to emerge as leaders."

"We see tremendous amount of growth opportunities in India for Caterpillar and its dealers, resulting from the government's aggressive plans for infrastructure development. For mining, Asia also represents opportunities to support long-term mining industry customers who are investing in their operations to support the growing demand for natural resources. Caterpillar is committed to achieve market leadership in India. We will continue to explore and develop products that will meet Indian market requirements and leverage regional and global product strategies to allow synergies with India," says Sidharth Mande, Director, Corporate Affairs, Caterpillar India

According to Philip Pollock Global Construction & Infrastructure Marketing Manager, Caterpillar Asia Pacific, "The 770G and 772G off-highway trucks will be manufactured in India and marketed to customers around the globe. With the 770G, our customers will have access to a Cat C15 engine with Tier-2 or Tier-3 options, with advanced features such as TCS, VIMS, TKPH Monitor, Advisor and Electronic Transmission controls. Addi?tionally, the truck's fuel efficient engine with higher payload offering provides lowest cost per ton to the customers."

Strong performance

The C15 engine powers the truck efficiently even on steep grades. Electronically controlled power train components provide torque-controlled shifts that enable the truck to climb grades quickly and to keep the operator comfortable. The 770G offers retarding strategies that include the Automatic Retarder Control and optional engine braking. Both systems increase the comfort level of the operator and the speed of the truck going downhill. For applications where roadway conditions are slippery, the optional Traction Control System auto?matically compensates for different wheel speeds and effectively reduces wheel spin.

Three different body options and two liner options enable optimizing the truck for the application. Caterpillar offers Quarry, Flat Floor and Dual Slope bodies. A steel liner is available for the Flat Floor and Dual Slope bodies, and a rubber liner is available for the Flat Floor body. Sideboards are available for hauling lightweight materials, such as coal.

Safety and efficiency

The 770G has optional, wide stairway access, which makes getting to and from the cab and maintenance platforms a simple task. Lights for the stairs are available. Two cab options are available to enable customers to stick to basics or to select from a wide range of options. The cab provides rollover protection and falling object protection for the operator. The Cat Work Area Vision System (WAVS) camera system is available to enhance the operator's view around the truck.

The optional Cat Comfort Series III seat adjusts to all sizes of operators and allows the operator to select the suspe?nsion chara?cteristics. A trainer's seat in the cab facilitates thorough training. In addition to ergonomically designed controls, a throttle lock reduces fatigue on long hauls. Electrically driven secondary steering ensures reliability, and speed limiting capability enforces safe procedures.

For the operator doing daily inspections and for maintenance personnel, inspection points, service access points and lockout points are accessible from the ground or platforms. A steering system lockout reduces risk during engine-on service.

Reducing lifecycle costs

A number of Caterpillar designs help keep truck costs down. The 770G has extended service intervals, which reduce downtime and maintenance costs. The engine oil and filter require changing at 500-hr intervals, and the transmission, torque converter, steering and braking hydraulic filters require service at 1,000-hr intervals. Precise engine control helps ensure optimum fuel burn for reduced fuel consumption per tonne of material moved, and the optional hydraulic demand fan only uses power when needed.

Major components, such as the C15 ACERT engine and the planetary powershift transmission, have long service lives. The Cat seven-speed power shift transmission is integrated with transmission chassis control electronics for improved performance and extended durability. Also, the differential design enhances durability. Long-life truck frames are made of mild steel for simple welding repair in the field.

Caterpillar today, also unveiled the new Cat? 772G off-highway truck, which is a 50 tonne class model designed and built for demanding construction, quarry and mining applications. The 772G features an efficient Cat engine and drive train configured to deliver high production and low cost per tonne of material hauled. An extensive list of options enables customers to configure their trucks to match their applications and their business objectives.
The 772G builds on the proven performance of the 772, which was introduced in 2006 and accumulated hundreds of thousands of hours moving materials. The 772G expands that legacy with manufacturing availability from India, allowing Caterpillar to better serve customers in China, India and Asia.

The 772G incorporates many features to enhance pe rformance and safety and reduce life cycle costs. At the heart of the new truck is the Cat C18 ACERTTM engine, which produces 421 kW (565 hp) and is available with two different emissions control strategies to suit the customer's needs.

A number of optional monitoring systems are designed to optimise application of the truck and to provide useful information about productivity and machine health. The Truck Production Management System helps the operating crew to effectively manage load for optimum productivity. Optional Product Link reports machine status and aspects of machine health to an internet site accessed by the Cat dealer and the customer. Similarly, the VIMSTM option monitors and reports machine health to designated managers. The optional system for monitoring tonne-kilometrer per hour can extend tyre life.
