We are launching the XP series piling and crawler drilling rigs
Casagrande offers Indian contractors custom-made solutions to suit the demands for all kinds of geotechnical engineering, piling rigs, diaphragm wall equipment, hydromills, CSM, displacement piles, CFA technology, anchor drilling, micro drilling and jet grouting rigs, says Giuliano Feruglio, Commercial Director, Casagrande SpA in an interview with Equipment India. Excerpts from the interview.

Casagrande being a new entrant into the market, how do you view the present potential and trends in the foundation equipment industry?
Casagrande is not a new entry into the Indian market as we have been serving Indian customers since 1986, while the company itself was established in 1963. We have set up a new subsidiary company called Casagrande India in order to improve our offerings in the Indian market in terms of products, technologies, after-sales services and relationship with the Indian contractors.

Which are the major verticals Casagrande expects more business from and what is the growth pattern at present?
We are growing at a reasonable rate and certainly expecting more business in one of the most important and faster growing economy in the world.

Is there a move towards green/fuel-efficient technology products?
Yes. Right now, we are launching the new XP series; its main features are focused on reducing environmental impact, thanks to the new full PLC technology. The new XP piling rigs and crawler drilling rigs are equipped with a full load sensing hydraulic system which allows a reduction in fuel consumptions of up to 25 per cent.

What are the safety features inbuilt in the machines?
Casagrande conforms to the European safety regulations which are among the strictest in the world and the products delivered to India are of this standard.

What is the range of products and services offered by Casagrande?
Casagrande is a world-class manufacturer of foundation equipment. It designs and produces hydraulic crawler cranes, large diameter piling rigs, equipment for diaphragm walls, small diameter drilling rigs, machines for tunnels, geothermal drilling rigs and grouting plants. The company was founded in 1963 and has manufactured 20,000 units and applications since it started.

What are the major challenges the industry faces?
The challenges that manufacturers such as Casagrande have to face are, first of all, the fast development of the economic scenario, the growing role of some new players in Asia and South America and, last but not least, the endeavour to keep offering reliable and well performing equipment.

How do you view the business pattern - is it from the direct-user segment or the rental segment?
Both, we supply machines to rental companies but for custom-made specific demands, we work directly with end-users.

Do you have any plans for a manufacturing facility in India?
We are evaluating this opportunity, as of now.
