Tell us about your association with LiuGong India.
In 2007, I met Korak Paul Choudhury, then Managing Director of LiuGong India, and later visited their manufacturing facility in China. Seeing their robust product pipeline, I gained a lot of confidence in their foray into India. After holding a few rounds of discussions, I became the dealer for Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh regions in April 2008. I had no adequate experience in running my business, although I had my stint with Hindustan Motors (Earthmoving Division). I took it as a challenge and have won the best dealer award in equipment sales category. My job is more of a business associate and that involves managing business, end to end, of earth moving machinery. During this course, I also acquired new skills of business management. Although we (the company and me) faced a lot of recessionary headwinds, we managed to maintain the growth momentum. Over the last seven years, our association has further strengthened.
How many units of LiuGong machines have you sold till date and how many sales outlets do you have?
We have sold more than 200 machines in the three states of Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Currently, we are covering the southern part of Rajasthan. We have around seven outlets across three states. We are now focusing heavily on selling additional number of machines. Although the majority of our volumes are derived from wheel loaders, we have also sold motor graders, excavators, compactors, etc.
Within the wheel-loader segment, we see maximum numbers been generated from the 5-tonner segment as the competition is severe in the three-tonner segment. Could you name your marquee clients?
Our major clients are Shree Cement, LSC Infratech, GMCO Enterprises, Bannalal Jat Construction, Siddharth Construction, P&C Infratech, CS Construction, and Varaha Infra among others. The major growth drivers for us are the road contractors. Shree Cement has gone to the level that they have recommended LiuGong products to their peers. Many of our customers have switched loyalties from another brand as they found our sales and service support overwhelming. Our USP has been excellent customer support.
What are your long term plans?
We certainly would like to be the strongest representative of LiuGong India. We are already holding active talks to sell excavators in the domestic market. This will expand the company?s presence in India. We hope they focus on excavators as one of their key product lines by 2016 or 2017. That will ensure we will be able to test our strengths too.
