Excon is returning after a gap of two years. What has been the past experience at the event?
Excon is one of the largest construction equipment trade fairs and has been playing an important role in bringing out the latest technologies and solutions and we at Terex are proud to be a part of the 11th edition taking place this year. Our presence at the event demonstrates our commitment to strengthen our foothold in India’s construction equipment market by bringing in new technologies, expanding our product portfolio, and entering new construction territories, in turn, contributing to India’s infrastructure development. Like in every Excon, this year too we will be introducing new products. India has been investing heavily in infrastructure across segments, fulfilling the ambitions of $5 trillion economy.

What are the key products on display during Excon? Explain in detail.
Evoquip compact solutions: This year, we will also be launching a track mounted compact range of crushing and screening machines such as jaw crushers, impact crushers and scalper screens under our EvoQuip brand, in the 80 t/hour to 160 t/ hour capacity, which can be transported on a small truck or trailer. These machines are being developed to cater to projects in the North-East and Himalayan regions as well C&D crushing very close to cities. Our aim is to offer an entire range of machines in various capacities from small, mid to high, which will be made in India to cater to road and mining sectors. They will be introduced in the market at competitive rates along with assured timely delivery.

FR 17 pick and carry crane: The main USP of Franna brand is its safety features. Franna pick and carry cranes live up to their name with the strength and easy operation to pick up heavy loads and the articulated steering flexibility to move in tight spaces. Their high road speeds get them to the jobsite quickly. The newly launched FR 17 is a very compact pick and carry mobile crane from Franna product range specially designed for Indian market for higher lifting capacity applications (17 t). This machine has a large torque converter, there is no clutch pedal which reduces driver fatigue while working for long crane hours. This crane combines safety and comfort with smooth steering flexibility, providing the operator with the ability to lift and manoeuvre in tight spaces. The heavy-duty U-section fabricated boom with welding on the neutral axis offers superior durability and a competitive edge while lifting heavy loads.

Powerscreen hybrid solutions: Powerscreen, one of the world’s leading providers of mobile crushing and screening equipment, is showcasing brand new Powerscreen PT410E and MT1010E hybrid powered machines at Excon 2021. The Powerscreen Hybrid option gives customers an alternative energy source, letting them choose which fuel to use depending on cost, location and availability. This option will be of special interest for customers in areas where electricity is more cost effective than diesel fuel and on sites where electricity is the preferred energy source. Powerscreen Hybrid machines are fitted with an additional electric/hydraulic drive system which can be connected to an external electricity supply once the machine has been setup onsite, reducing fuel consumption and operating costs.

Finlay 883+ hybrid screener: The high-performance Finlay 883+ hybrid screen machine is designed to work after a primary crusher or on its own as a front line tracked mobile screening machine. The plant has the capacity to process at a rate of up to 600 t per hour and can be fed either by a tracked mobile crusher, shovel or an excavator. The machine is fitted with a hybrid powerpack that is based upon an electric/hydraulic drive system that enables operators to connect the machine to a secondary electrical supply on site to provide even greater flexibility and energy efficiency ultimately resulting in significant fuel savings.

Terex Cedarapids MVPX's cone crusher: Our locally built Terex Cedarapids MVPX's cone Crushers are the leading force in compression crushers. These cone crushers simply pulverise everything that stands in the way of success and boasts numerous features that increase the machine’s productivity and ease of use. Inside and out, the advanced engineering of the MVPX sets industry benchmarks, featuring a patented Rollercone roller bearing design and the hydropneumatic tramp iron relief system that revolutionised the industry. The complete MVPX line includes four different models in stationary or portable configurations, from 200 to 500 horsepower, processing up to 800 TPH and capable of handling sand and gravel, shot rock and recycled materials.

Terex MPS VSI2050: The new Terex MPS VSI 2050 is a high capacity tracked Rock on Rock (ROR) vertical shaft impactor. The high velocity rock on rock crushing process produces a superior high specification product in quarrying and mineral processing industries with excellent overall plant throughput capacity. It is an impressive machine built around the field proven Canica V-2050 chamber that features a new patent pending hydraulically controlled dual flow system. The Dual Flow system helps elevate the crusher’s throughput capacity without increasing the overall drive power. The heart of the VSI is the six-port heavy duty closed rotor especially suited to more abrasive applications and minimises wear costs. This impressive VSI is ideal for applications that demand the best product shape and quality, with a throughput capacity that can only be admired.

FM200DF and DC100 thickener: The FM200 Direct Feed is a 150 tph direct feed model under our Terex washing systems brand. It is a compact sand plant that allows economical washing and sand processing to happen on a very small footprint. Suitable for pre-screened material with minimum oversize and is especially suited to dust washing applications. This compact sand plant works on the principle that a dry pre-screened feed is delivered to the wash box equipped with a high-pressure spray bar to pre-soak the feed before being delivered to the screen. It has been introduced for applications where the percentage of over size in the feed material is minimum.

Terex deep cone thickeners are designed and constructed to give optimum performance and reliability in even the toughest applications. The deep cone provides a smaller footprint than a rake style thickener saving space on site. The thickened sludge under?ow can reach solids content of over 50 per cent. With no moving parts there is minimal servicing requirement.

How do you look at the market in India for your products?
The market for track-mounted crushing and screening plants is estimated at approximately Rs 6 billion and the surge in demand pan India for our products will be visible in the coming years. Major factors that currently drive the demand for crushing and screening equipment includes various infrastructural projects like road construction, power plants, ports, railways, iron ore and coal sectors, urban infrastructural developments, etc.

What are the various challenges faced in the sector you are in? Please share more information on the investment made in the Indian market in terms of the manufacturing facility, etc.
With rising energy costs, social and geopolitical risks and shortage of skilled manpower resource, companies remain under exceptional pressure to control costs, heighten efficiency and improve safety performance. The sector includes high operation costs, maintenance costs. Poor networking with financial institutions is also delaying loan executions. Small contractors, who execute over 90 per cent of construction work, are now lacking funds for modernisation and expansion of equipment facilities.

Through extensive product innovation, we have grown multi-fold in the last 12 years, starting from four models in 2009 to more than 60 models in 2021, covering various brands. We have added new products to our portfolio and developed new variants, even during these challenging times. Our smaller range of crushing machines such as jaw crushers and impact crushers under EvoQuip brand, in the 80 t/hour to 160 t/ hour capacity, can be transported on a small truck or trailer. These machines are being developed to cater to projects in the North-East and Himalayan regions as well C&D crushing very close to cities. We aim to offer an entire range of machines in various capacities from small, mid to high, which will be made in India to cater to road and mining sectors. They will be introduced in the market at competitive rates along with assured timely delivery.
