Wind Velocity Monitor
A crane operator must be given sufficient warning to decide when the crane should be put out of service because of risks due to high winds and his inability to control the load. The instrument offered by ACD, apart from continuously monitoring the wind speed, also provides two limit switches ?ALARM? and ?DANGER? (settable over full range) with one changeover relay contact per setting.

Wind velocity sensor comprises three conical beaded edged cups 132 mm in diameter, attached by arms to a central boss which drive a vertical spindle at a rotary speed proportional to the wind velocity (dimensions confirming to IS 5912: 1970). Aluminium and stainless steel are used throughout this assembly to ensure freedom from corrosion and long working life. A conical shield protects the spindle and bearing from the rain.

An infrared transducer connected to the vertical shaft gives pulses proportional to the number of rotations of the vertical shaft. This signal is carried through interconnecting cable (standard length 20 m) to the display unit. The signal is further integrated with time to read wind speed in km/hr on a graphical display. The panel has provision to set the ALARM and DANGER limits.
