Women Forklift Drivers
Godrej Material Handling business of Godrej & Boyce concluded the training of its first batch of women forklift drivers. In 2011, the company under its CSR strategy called ?Good and Green? had launched Godrej Disha to ensure employability for one million youth that will enhance their earning potential.
Godrej Disha is the flagship skill training program for the under-served youth. The Godrej Disha Forklift Driver course for ladies started as a gender diversity initiative. The 14-day training, started on December 1, concluded with all the women participants being awarded with a training certificate. Another batch with only women started on December 15. Women forklift drivers have been non-existent in India and this is may be one of the very first times such training has been conducted by any Indian company. The training will open new career options for these women.
After the training program, these women are capable in material handling concepts, features of the forklift, its performance characteristics, technical specification etc, main parts of the forklift, safety features in the forklift, pre-operational checks, dos and don?ts while operating the forklift - use of the check sheet, practical operation of the forklift like manoeuvring the forklift and stacking/de-stacking loads on racks and parking procedures.
