XCMG Deploys Heavy Equipment for Nairobi Rescue Operations
XCMG Group deployed heavy construction equipment to support emergency rescue operations following the collapse of an 18-storey building under construction in Nairobi, Kenya, on 23 October 2026. The company's equipment helped local emergency teams rescue two people trapped beneath the debris.

The building collapsed in Nairobi's Eastleigh neighbourhood while construction workers were on site and ground-floor shops were operating. Emergency response teams, including the Kenya Defence Forces, Red Cross and police, launched search and rescue operations. However, extensive rubble and thick concrete slabs created significant challenges, requiring specialised heavy lifting and demolition equipment.

Responding to the emergency, XCMG's Kenya office coordinated with the National Disaster Operations Centre and local police authorities. The company deployed an excavator on the day of the collapse, followed by a 25-tonne crane on 24 October. Both machines operated under the supervision of rescue personnel to remove debris and establish access routes.

William Sifuna Watitwa, a police personnel officer for Nairobi's northern sub-region, acknowledged the excavator's role in rescuing two survivors. He explained that the crane helped lift heavy wreckage, reducing pressure on the debris and enabling rescue teams to access areas where survivors might be trapped.

Fredrick Nyasani, Administrator at XCMG's Kenya office, emphasised the company's commitment to supporting local communities during emergencies. He stated that XCMG would continue providing specialised equipment and technical personnel to assist Kenyan rescue teams.

As of 25 October, government officials reported that five people remained missing, while four were receiving hospital treatment.

XCMG confirmed that its rescue team would remain at the site and continue assisting local authorities until the rescue operations were completed.
