Zoomlion Unveils World's Largest Tower Crane
The behemoth rolled off Zoomlion's production line on April 20, after only eight months in development at the company's Changde factory. It will be used to build the Ma'anshan Yangtze River Highway-Railway Bridge, the world's longest three-tower cable-stayed bridge.
"The R2000-720 has made innovations and breakthroughs in weight balancing, structure, intelligent control, and other technologies, addressing multiple global challenges for ultra-large tower cranes operating in extremely complex working conditions, such as strong wind, high humidity and heavy load, meaning it's not just the world's largest, but also strongest tower crane," said a spokesperson for Zoomlion.
According to the company, the crane uses mobile balancing weight technology to accurately move with hoisting torque, improving hoisting performance by more than 60%. The design incorporates a high load-bearing, lightweight structure as well as a heavy-duty split structure, resulting in a lower structure of tower cranes that is more than 20% smaller than traditional designs. Zoomlion claims that this facilitates transportation, installation, and disassembly.
Zoomlion says it has invested heavily in intelligent control technology to improve the crane's responsiveness and has 305 patents on the machine. According to the company, the R2000-720's advanced control system employs 50 intelligent technologies to achieve a millisecond response time.
There were no additional machine specifications revealed. In July 2022, Zoomlion will also unveil the world's largest tonnage all-terrain crane.
According to Bridge Design & Engineering, the world's largest tower crane will work on what will become the world's longest continuous cable-stayed deck at nearly 2 miles, and the two main spans will set the world record for longest cable-stayed span at.7 miles.
The 6-mile-long bridge in Anhui Province will be built beginning in August 2020. This year saw the start of construction on the main bridge section. According to Seetao, it will be the sixth Yangtze River highway and railway bridge on the 800-mile Anhui River. Upper and lower decks will be built, with the upper serving as a six-lane expressway and the lower as a four-track railway for high-speed trains.
