bC India is the best showcase for Spanish companies and products
India is one of the most interesting markets, along with Brazil and China. Spanish companies belonging to Anmopyc are positioning themselves in the Indian market through trade missions and trade fairs as bC India, says Jorge Cuartero, Managing Director, Anmopyc. Excerpts from the interview.

Could you brief us on Anmopyc, its objectives and India-specific strategies?
Our main purpose is the development and promotion of member companies? sales in foreign markets, along with the intensive search for new markets and the protection of the members? interests. The Indian market has turned into one of the main world markets; therefore, Anmopyc and ICEX (Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade) have been banking on it for promoting Spanish equipment. Nowadays, India is one of the most interesting markets, along with Brazil and China. Spanish companies belonging to Anmopyc are positioning themselves in the Indian market through trade missions and trade fairs as bC India.

What are the sales trends in the global markets?
Spanish equipment can be found all over the world and, in the last few years, sales of these products have ex?perienced an outstanding increase. The presence of Anmopyc and some of its company members confirm the importance of these markets to Spanish manufacturers.

How do you assess growth potential in India?
It is expected that India, the second most populated country in the world, will grow in the next few years to about six per cent. That is why Spanish manufacturers acknowledge the importance of India. The presence of Spanish products in India has turned it into one of the main world markets.

What is your take on bC India as a business platform?
We think that bC India is the best showcase for Spanish companies and products. Companies have the opportunity to show their products and meet Indian and international companies.

What is the total number of member companies participating in bC India?
In the last edition of bC India, nine members participated, and this year, 11 Spanish companies will be taking part in the Spanish Pavilion organised by Icex. They are Anmopyc, Hoistmachinery-Wishehr?s, Resimart, Prensoland, Goian, Metalogenia, Poyatos, Macroza, THSA, Talleres Alquezar and VIFESA.

Have any of them already invested in India?
Due to the high number of Spanish manufacturers in the sector, the investment of manufacturing activities regarding construction and mining equipment in Spain is growing slowly but steadily. The big groups like Liebherr, Putzmeister and the Tractel Group from Luxemburg have made investments in order to manufacture some of their products in Spain. The short presence of foreign capital in the manufacturer`s sector contrasts with the strong presence in the distributing companies of these kinds of equipment, given that several of these companies are subsidiaries of big international groups, specially from Germany, Japan and the US.

What is the total value of exports from Anmopyc member companies?
Last year, five per cent of Anmopyc?s members` export sales took place in India. The consequences of the crisis in the Spanish construction industry seem not to have affected products` competitiveness in foreign markets. Exports have increased the diversification degree as they go to more markets. That means those exports are not linked to economic development of traditional trade partners of Spanish companies.

Brief us on the initiatives by Anmopyc to ensure safety.
Regarding R&D, there is a very positive trend towards investment. Companies are more aware of the importance of making efforts to get Spanish equipment. Projects developed by Anmopyc are very well received. Besides the technical developments incorporated into the equipment, we must recognise the sustained effort of Spanish companies to implement European standards and those issued by AENOR (Spanish Association for Normalisation) which are focused on safety at work.
