Putting a value on training
A large part of the business is in the hands of equipment operators. A well trained, skilled and certified heavy equipment and machine operator can play an important role in increasing the profitability. Today, the ecosystem has realised the need of right sourcing, assessment, training and certification of the operators.

The Government of India has taken the Skill India initiative. This segment’s training delivery is quite challenging. The present skill ecosystem needs specially designed a special framework for the heavy equipment operators training. There are more than thousands of training partners working for the Skill India ecosystem. But there are only a few companies who are working for the training of operators.

Indian Institute of Skill Development (IISD) is one of the best companies, providing training to heavy equipment and machinery operators. Anshuk Talwar, CEO of IISD, emphasised that it is very important to impart training to the operators in mining, construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, automotive, engineering and other sectors where the equipment and machine is critical for the growth of India.

IISD has termed the operator as HERO “heavy equipment resourceful operator” to create the value of operator. The HERO is a highly skilled and trained operator who is well versed with technical and operational aspects of the equipment. He is aligned with the job work, team, safety and health parameters.

Higher productivity, reduced fuel cost, reduced MTBF, improved MTTR, minimised downtime, low maintenance cost, longer equipment life and other tangible benefits can increase the overall efficiency of the equipment by utilising it optimally. The trained operators are ready to adopt new technologies, which increase the RoI from new technology. The HERO will have minimal job site error; reduce the risk of accident and better work coordination. The organisation will have better documentation to meet the compliances.

IISD has been training and deploying operators at the mine sites of Hindustan Zinc. These operators run sophisticated equipment such as jumbo drill, winding engine, LHD and LPDT. Candidates are trained on actual machines and sophisticated simulators.

IISD has conducted the training for crusher operators of the customers of METSO. The skilled resource onsite helped in early diagnosis of problems, quick turnaround in case of breakdown and lower load of company’s service engineers. METSO achieved productivity, cost control, increase in sales and a high good will with their customers.

The on-going operation for the operators of backhoe loaders and HEMM has received extremely good response from Caterpillar. The customers of Caterpillar are happy to hire the trained operators.

Talwar is focused on the approach to create value by providing superior industry-oriented courses, which include a balanced mix of technical skills and soft skills. In the last 11 years, IISD has successfully impacted the partner’s profitability by offering professional high-quality training. It has helped us to sustain the profitability to become a highly trusted skill development and training partner in the ecosystem.
