What is the key highlight of Volvo CE’s presence at bauma?
The key highlight is the commercial launch of the EC650, our 65-tonne class mining excavator. It is an important addition to our mining portfolio and is available for immediate delivery to customers. At the exhibition, we are also presenting a broad portfolio spanning construction equipment, compactors, mining machines and electric equipment, supported by connected technologies and lifecycle services.
What are the key features of the new EC650 mining excavator?
The EC650 is powered by the Volvo D13E engine, delivering 435 hp. It has been developed for demanding mass-excavation and mining applications, with a robust undercarriage, heavy-duty boom and arm, and advanced hydraulics. Fuel efficiency and durability have been important considerations in the development of the machine, particularly because mining equipment has to operate reliably under demanding conditions and over long working shifts.
The EC650 will also be available through our Equipment-as-a-Service offering, giving customers another option for accessing the machine depending on their operating requirements.
How are customer requirements in the mining sector changing?
India's mining sector is operating at a scale and intensity like never before. Customers therefore require equipment that can perform consistently in demanding operating conditions while also addressing fuel efficiency and operator requirements.
Dependability is particularly important because mining equipment works through long operating cycles, where productivity, uptime and operating efficiency have a direct impact on site performance.
With the EC650, our focus is therefore not simply on adding another excavator to the portfolio but on addressing these evolving operating requirements.
What other equipment are you showcasing for construction and mining applications?
In the construction and industrial segment, we are showcasing our 20-tonne excavator range comprising the EC210, EC215 and EC220. These machines cater to applications including road construction, urban construction, quarrying and river-bed mining. We are also displaying the EC300 excavator, SD110 soil compactor, DD90 tandem compactor and L120 Electric wheel loader.
For mining applications, the EC480, newly launched EC650 and L150 are among the key machines being showcased. Rather than looking at individual products in isolation, our approach is increasingly application-led, based on what customers require at a particular site.
How important are connected technologies in improving machine productivity and uptime?
Our approach extends beyond supplying the machine itself. Connected services, productivity solutions, repair and maintenance agreements and application-led offerings form an important part of how we support customers throughout the equipment lifecycle.
These technologies and services are intended to give customers better visibility into machine performance while helping improve uptime, operating efficiency and overall site productivity.
What role is electric equipment playing in Volvo CE’s India portfolio?
Electric equipment is already part of our product showcase in India. At bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2026, we are displaying the L120 Electric wheel loader alongside our conventional construction and mining equipment.
This reflects the broader transition taking place within construction equipment towards technologies that can improve efficiency while reducing environmental impact. Our portfolio approach is therefore covering conventional equipment as well as emerging electric solutions.
How is Volvo CE strengthening its engineering and localisation capabilities in India?
India is an important market for our long-term development. We have announced investment in our Technology Centre in Bengaluru, which will support R&D, localisation and product innovation.
The centre will work on technologies and products not only for India but also for global markets, strengthening India's role within our engineering and development activities.
