50 Years of DX? Metal-Polymer Bearings
Developed to fill the gap between fully lubricated bearings and the company?s self-lubricating DU? bearings, the DX? bushing material offers extraordinary advantages in high load, slow speed applications with linear, oscillating and rotating movements under conditions of intermittent operation or boundary lubrication. Key to this superior performance is its unique construction incorporating a highly effective grease retention system. Unlike ?dry? DU? bearings, DX? bearings are tape-based containing indents in the sliding layer that serve as reservoirs for grease lubrication. The bearings ane also available with plain sliding layers.
Today?s DX? bearings remain an effective solution, and continue to set the global standard for marginally lubricated metal-polymer plain bearings. They are used in a variety of automotive applications, including steering gears, power steering systems, pedals, seat slides, king-pins, tailgate pivots, brake calipers and others. They are also used in a wide range of industrial applications such as mechanical handling and lifting equipment, machine slides, hydraulic motors, ski-lifts, pneumatic equipment, medical equipment, textile machinery, agricultural equipment and scientific equipment.
The first tape-based metal-polymer bearing material developed by GGB, DX? spawned a range of these type products, including Hi-EX?, a marginally lubricated bearing material for use in high-temperature applications in 1986; DX10? for heavy-duty truck kingpins in 2008; and in 2012 DTS10? self-lubricating machinable bearing material for the fluid power and compressor industries.
Next year GGB will mark the 60th anniversary of its DU? bearings, which together with DX? and others have made it the acknowledged global leader in metal-polymer plain bearings.
