Vivek holds a Bachelor?s degree (Production Engineering) from NIT, Trichy, India; and Master?s degree (Engineering Management) from BITS, Pilani, India. He has been an active member of key industry associations in India. He is an Executive Committee Member of AmCham, Chennai; Governing Council Member and Co-convenor of Data Panel, ICEMA; Governing Council Member and Convenor of Education Panel, CII Southern Region.
With over 18 years at Caterpillar, Vivek has held a variety of leadership positions in manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, 6 Sigma and Caterpillar Production System (CPS). Currently based in Chennai, he has had previous assignments in Hosur. He has worked in numerous new project introductions and has been part of huge capital deployment of Caterpillar in India.
Vivek holds the responsibility for being a trusted advisor to the group presidents and business unit leaders regarding business opportunities and challenges within India, providing information and analysis, as required and to take advantage of opportunities and respond to challenges. Vivek is also accountable for external engagements with government officials and the media. He supports the country Human Resource (HR) manager and region HR director in reviewing HR, leadership development and compensation policies within India to understand if issues exist relative to consistency, depth of talent and market competitiveness.
As a managing director of MH&UD, Vivek is responsible for the performance of the Caterpillar India operation in Thiruvallur as well as developing and executing the long term strategy for the facility in alignment with the overall Caterpillar strategy. The Caterpillar global top team putting the trust in Vivek to lead its India operations and making him the Country Manager and Managing Director for India operations is the biggest reward conferred on him by the company.
