AUEQI: India’s Construction Rental Revolution
In an industry as dynamic and demanding as construction, delays aren’t just inconvenient—they’re expensive. Yet for decades, one persistent bottleneck has haunted builders across India: access to reliable, affordable, and available construction equipment. That’s where AUEQI Technologies comes in.

Founded by Janardhan Reddy, a third-generation construction professional, AUEQI is on a mission to digitise and democratise India’s vast but fragmented construction equipment rental ecosystem.

“We don’t just want to digitise a broken process,” says Janardhan, Founder and Managing Director, AUEQI. “We want to rebuild it from the ground up—starting with the people who’ve never had access before.”

Pain points of an industry left behind
India’s construction sector contributes nearly 9 per cent to the GDP and is expected to reach $1.4 trillion by 2025. But behind the towering cranes and concrete pours lies a hidden struggle—contractors who can’t find equipment when and where they need it, rental rates that fluctuate wildly with middlemen fees, and machines lying idle for months due to poor utilisation.

“The average equipment utilisation in India is just 40 per cent,” explains Janardhan. “That means 60 per cent of our nation’s machines are either parked or underused. That’s an enormous economic loss—especially when newer machines are still being imported.”

The problem, he says, is not just about supply. It’s about inefficient access, lack of transparency, and zero digitisation in an industry still functioning on phone calls, personal networks, and handwritten ledgers.

AUEQI Technologies was born from this very inefficiency. Launched in December 2024, the startup has since developed a fully integrated online platform www.aueqi.in that allows contractors to search, compare, and rent equipment in real time.

  • Geo-location-based search ensures machines are found close to the project site.
  • Transparent pricing removes intermediaries and unexpected costs.
  • IoT integration offers real-time data on fuel use, run-time hours, and maintenance.
  • Payment security and credit support address both contractor and supplier concerns.

“Whether you’re a large EPC player or a small road contractor in Tamil Nadu,” Janardhan says, “you can now access the same quality equipment with the same efficiency and transparency.”

Empowering the local backbone
A key pillar of AUEQI’s model is empowering small and mid-sized players—both construction firms and equipment owners.

“A lot of platforms just focus on the top 10 per cent of the market. We’re focusing on the 90 per cent that actually builds India,” says Janardhan. “We’re giving the guy with two backhoe loaders in Vijayawada the same digital power as a fleet manager in Mumbai.”

For equipment owners, AUEQI is a chance to increase utilisation, earn more revenue, and reach new customers without investing in marketing, logistics, or collections. For renters, it’s access without ownership—a concept that has already revolutionised industries like transport and hospitality.

“This is the Ola for bulldozers,” Janardhan says. “Except with fuel sensors and predictive maintenance.”

Technology built for India
At the heart of the AUEQI ecosystem is an IoT-powered analytics dashboard. Each machine listed on the platform can be optionally fitted with GPS, fuel sensors, and even onboard cameras—turning traditional hardware into smart machines.

These IoT devices not only track performance and usage, but also predict breakdowns, flag inefficient fuel consumption, and allow real-time site monitoring.

While AUEQI is based in Bengaluru, the team has a deep focus on South India in its early growth phase. The goal is to tap into a Rs 1.5 billion addressable market in the region before scaling nationally.

“This is a Rs 300 billion market—and that’s just the organised part,” Janardhan points out. “Add the unorganised sector and you’re looking at a Rs 500 billion opportunity.”

Currently, AUEQI has onboarded 200+ vendors, listed 500+ machines, and facilitated over Rs 26 lakh in transactions within the first few months of operations. But the ambition goes further.

By 2026, the company aims to have 5,000+ equipment listings, 10,000+ completed transactions, and IoT deployed on 2,000+ assets. One of AUEQI’s key strategic partnerships is with Repos Energy, which enables on-demand fuel delivery to construction sites, cutting down idle time and improving logistics. “We reduce transportation emissions, avoid unnecessary manufacturing, and extend the life of existing assets.”

That ethos also applies to workforce empowerment. “Our platform is not displacing people—it’s enabling them. Drivers, mechanics, contractors, operators—everyone gains from better planning, better tools, and better access.”

Recognised as an innovator by the Government of Karnataka’s RGVN initiative, AUEQI is now looking to raise a seed round of Rs 3 crore to fund product development, marketing, and regional expansion.

“This isn’t just a marketplace—it’s the beginning of a national infrastructure backbone for rentals,” says Janardhan. “What UPI did for digital payments, we want to do for equipment rentals.”

AUEQI is not just solving a problem—it’s shifting an entire mindset in how India builds. With digitisation, real-time intelligence, and an inclusive growth model, the platform has the potential to become the go-to rental network for a nation building at full speed.

“India is growing. Our cities are expanding. Roads, airports, homes, factories—all of it needs machines. We’re here to make sure those machines are used better, smarter, and by more people,” Janardhan concludes with quiet determination.

If India’s construction sector is the engine of growth, then AUEQI just might be its gearbox—ensuring every machine, every hour, and every rupee counts.
