Excavator Transport System
Sleipner system offers enhanced productivity, increased equipment utilisation, reduced operation cost, faster mobility and better overall economics during the excavator?s lifetime.
Moving an excavator on its own power and tracks is a slow and cumbersome process and causes heavy wear and strain on tracks and other undercarriage components, apart from loss of time from production and adding related fuel costs. The idea of the Sleipner system is to move the machine so that the tracks are lifted above ground. Sleipner is a globally patented, innovative, simple and highly effective system for faster, easier and safer transportation of tracked excavators and shovels inside open-pit mines, large quarries, between sites and work locations and on paved surfaces where the frequent move of the machine is necessary.
System benefits
The use of the Sleipner system offers quite few benefits. They include enhanced productivity, increased equipment utilisation, reduced operation cost, faster mobility and better overall economics during the excavator?s lifetime. In addition, the system generates benefits in fuel consumption, reduced failures, reduced downtime and reduced maintenance cost.
Faster mobility of excavators helps in simplifying mine planning and better mining. Precious time thus saved with this process can be utilised for actual production and excavation work.
With increased mobility of excavators, maintenance and repair activities can be performed at central workshop thereby improving maintenance quality, reduction in repair time, increased safety, easy supervision, reduction in activities and infrastructure-related to field maintenance.
The travelling speed of the Sleipner system is 10-15 kmph while excavators travel 1-2 kmph on their own power in mine and quarry conditions.
One of the practical results is that the undercarriage life can be extended by 2-3 times. Major results can be:
Economical method - Faster payback, less than six months
The system was developed in 1996 by Sleipner Finland Oy, the sole manufacturer of the system in the world. Presently systems are available for hydraulic excavator classes from 30 tonne up to 550 tonne. There are already a good number of references all over the world including major mining companies, large quarries and plants. The satisfactory references cover all continents and also all climatic conditions.
Now the system is introduced also to the Indian market by Houtec Engineering & Services Pvt Ltd based in Mumbai.
