Mahindra Delivers Over 3,000 Electric SUVs, Sees Strong Demand
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has announced the delivery of over 3,000 units of its new electric SUVs—the XEV 9e and BE 6—since customer handovers began on March 20. These vehicles mark the company’s entry into the electric SUV segment, built from the ground up on the new 'Origin' platform.

The XEV 9e currently represents 59 per cent of total bookings, while the BE 6 accounts for 41 per cent. Although Mahindra hasn’t disclosed the total number of bookings, it did mention that waiting periods have extended up to six months in some regions. The company is working to scale up deliveries to meet demand.

Uday Narang, Founder and Chairman of Omega Seiki Pvt. Ltd., highlighted that this milestone underscores the growing influence of Indian manufacturers in the EV sector. “Indian companies are no longer just catching up—they’re setting the pace,” he remarked, adding that Mahindra’s launch signals a shift in how the world views India’s automotive innovation.

Mahindra also noted that most customers have opted for the fully loaded ‘Pack Three’ variant across both models. While exact variant-wise sales data was not shared, demand appears focused on the higher-end trims, indicating a preference for premium features among early adopters.

This rollout comes at a time when competition in India’s domestic electric vehicle (EV) market is heating up. Tata Motors leads the market with around a 62 per cent share, followed by MG Motor India with 21 per cent. In the electric SUV category, Tata dominates with the Nexon EV and Punch EV, while global players like Hyundai (Creta EV) and MG (ZS EV) are making their mark as well.

Mahindra’s move into the EV market marks its most ambitious effort yet, following earlier, more limited successes with models like the e-Verito, e2o, and XUV400. Industry experts believe Mahindra’s ability to manage production volumes and delivery timelines will be crucial to the success of its Origin EV lineup in the long run.

“Demand for electric SUVs will remain high, but the competition in the mid-size and premium segments will intensify as more brands enter the space,” said Puneet Gupta, Director at S&P Global Mobility. “India’s EV ecosystem is still developing, but Mahindra is positioning itself with distinct designs and a more structured approach.”
