Vedanta Aluminum, GEAR India, ink pact for electric forklifts
Vedanta Aluminum has signed a pact with GEAR India for deploying electric forklifts in India. As many as 23 electric forklifts will be commissioned in a phased manner in the upcoming few months. Vedanta Aluminum along with GEAR India will be deploying lithium-ion battery-powered electric forklifts in India. It will be among one of the largest fleets in the country.

The company will be commissioning 23 forklifts in the upcoming months in a phased manner. It will take place at their aluminum smelter in Jharsuguda, which is included in the world’s largest single-location aluminum smelters.

As the green fleet acts as a substitute for the diesel-fuelled forklifts, there will be an annual diesel reduction of over 2.5 lakh litres. In addition, greenhouse gas- GHG emission savings of approximately 690 tonnes of the CO2 equivalent is ensured.

Vedanta Aluminum is currently operating forklifts for various purposes that include handling finished goods and material movement. Longer working hours will be possible due to rapid charging. Therefore, the productivity of operations will be maximised by the new lithium-ion forklifts.

Vedanta Aluminium is focused on achieving its goal of net-zero carbon emissions by the end of 2050. The partnership with GEAR for deploying the largest and advanced electric forklift fleets aligns with their endeavor of making the operations future-ready by leveraging the power of innovation and technology.

Along with the carbon footprint reduction, the initiative will be utilising cloud computing for providing real-time analytics for enhancing productivity and boosting the safety of the employees, said Vedanta Aluminum Business CEO, Rahul Sharma.
