bauma ConExpo Exclusive: We are evolving from an engine supplier to a solution provider: Cummins India
- Inputs by Jameson Mendonca, Power Generation Business Leader, Cummins India Limited
What were the key power solutions showcased by Cummins at Bauma CONEXPO India 2026?
We showcased solutions for applications where power density, reliability and emissions are critical. In the data centre segment, rising power density is driving the need for higher output from the same engine platform. Our G34 has therefore been upgraded from 2,200 kVA to 2,250 kVA to address this requirement. The QSK60 G34 2,250 kVA is designed for data centres and mission-critical applications, with high power density and rapid load acceptance.
We also launched the G37 2,500 kVA, developed to meet the requirements of CAQM, including the lower NOx limits applicable in specific Indian markets. Alongside these high-horsepower solutions, we showcased the 125 kVA CPCB IV+ Silent Diesel Generator, powered by the QSB4.5-G2 engine and supported by in-house after-treatment and 4G telematics.
Beyond its power generation portfolio, Cummins offers end-to-end aftermarket solutions that help customers maximise uptime, reliability, and total cost of ownership. These aftermarket solutions include ReCon® remanufactured parts, genuine parts and fuel management to digital service capabilities, BESS and nationwide service support, Cummins helps optimise asset performance throughout the lifecycle. This comprehensive portfolio reinforces Cummins' as a long-term power solutions partner, providing integrated smart solutions and lifecycle support to deliver an experience in sustained customer value.
How are you balancing higher performance with increasingly stringent emission requirements?
The Q60 platform has been used in India for more than two decades and has established a reputation for durability and reliability. Our approach is to build on that proven platform while fine-tuning it for evolving emission requirements.
For the G37, we introduced a new turbocharger and optimised the electronic engine calibration to meet the CAQM requirements without compromising the product’s performance and reliability. Our integrated component capabilities give us the flexibility to make such modifications quickly.
How important are reliability and uptime for data centre customers?
They are critical. Data centre customers need power to be available when required, and reliability and uptime are among their primary considerations.
Our aftermarket support also plays an important role through scheduled maintenance, which helps improve uptime. Telematics is further strengthening this capability by providing real-time information on genset performance and enabling our service teams to identify potential issues proactively. Our comprehensive lifecycle support, including digital connectivity and a nationwide service ecosystem, is aimed at improving uptime, simplifying maintenance and supporting lower lifecycle costs.
• Reliability and uptime are non-negotiable for data centres, where uninterrupted power is critical to business continuity.
• Dependable power, backed by lifecycle support: Cummins combines reliable power solutions with planned maintenance solutions, Genuine Parts and nationwide service capabilities to sustain performance and uptime.
• Connected and Proactive Service: Telematics and integrated smart solutions provide real-time equipment visibility, enabling predictive capabilities to identify and manage issues, providing faster intervention.
• Optimising Lifecycle Performance and Value: Predictive integrated digital solutions, technical expertise and nationwide support help customers optimise assets, planned maintenance solutions and manage total cost of ownership.
• Powering Confidence Beyond the Genset: This integrated ecosystem enables data center operators to focus on their core operations, with confidence that critical power will be available when needed.
How is telematics changing genset maintenance?
Telematics gives us detailed information on how gensets are operating in the field. It can monitor parameters, identify fault codes and highlight potential failures.
This allows us to alert customers proactively and prepare our service engineers with the required information and spare parts before a site visit. As a result, repair cycle times and downtime can be significantly reduced.
We are also working towards prognostics, using engine data to identify potential failures before they occur. This enables preventive action and can help customers avoid costly repairs. Our aftermarket portfolio also includes Vigilar for remote monitoring, strengthening our ability to provide connected lifecycle support for customers.
• Strengthening aftermarket support through connectivity: Telematics and integrated smart solutions such as Cummins Vigilar, enable remote monitoring, proactive maintenance and faster service response.
• Driving proactive asset management: Real-time insights into asset health help customers optimise maintenance, maximise uptime and improve equipment performance throughout the lifecycle support for customer experience.
• Delivering greater confidence and value: Integrated smart solutions, predictive integrated digital solutions (insights) and aftermarket support provided, helps reduce downtime and total cost of ownership.
Significance Of Telematics
o Enabling Real-time Equipment Visibility: Telematics monitors critical parameters and fault codes, is pivotal in identifying potential issues before they lead to unplanned downtime.
o Enabling Faster Service Response: Early alerts and remote diagnostics allow service teams to arrive with the right information, tools and parts, reducing troubleshooting and repair cycle times.
o Moving From Preventive to Predictive Maintenance: Prognostic capabilities use engine and equipment data to anticipate potential failures, enabling timely intervention, maintenance planning focused on integrated smart solutions and reduced downtime and repair costs.
o Ultimately, this helps maximise equipment availability, performance, and lifecycle value.
We are moving from being seen primarily as a diesel engine supplier to becoming a solution provider. Different applications have different emission and operating requirements, so we work closely with customers to develop the appropriate solution. Our approach combines localized engineering, technology-led power solutions, digital connectivity and comprehensive lifecycle support to address the specific requirements of different applications.
We are also showcasing battery energy solutions. In the data centre segment, customers require an integrated power system rather than an individual genset. The focus is therefore on seamlessly integrating battery energy solutions with gensets and other equipment to provide a complete power solution. Our aftermarket portfolio also includes battery energy solutions such as cabinet/containerised BESS, alongside solutions such as remote monitoring and fuel management, reinforcing the shift towards integrated, lifecycle-focused power solutions.
o Evolving From Equipment Supplier to Integrated Solutions Partner: Cummins combines application-specific engineering, advanced power technologies, integrated smart solutions and lifecycle support to address diverse customer needs.
o Delivering Integrated Power Ecosystems: BESS, power generation, controls and integrated smart solutions enable resilient, efficient and scalable power, particularly for demanding applications such as data centers
o Extending Value Beyond the Equipment: Connected solutions including DATUM and Vigilar®, FuelSure® fuel management solutions, Dual Fuel Kit technology, Genuine Parts, predictive maintenance planning and nationwide service support help customers optimise fuel efficiency, asset performance, and uptime.
o Building Long-term Customer Value: This integrated smart solutions approach enables Cummins to support the evolving needs of construction, data centers and other critical applications, delivering performance and value across the asset lifecycle.
