Cummins, CII Launch Air Quality Decision Support System
Cummins in India and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) have launched an advanced Decision Support System (DSS) for air quality management under the Cleaner Air Better Life (CABL) initiative. Developed in collaboration with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and Airvoice, the platform will help authorities make data-driven decisions to improve air quality in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad.

The DSS provides up to 72-hour air quality forecasts and actionable insights, enabling city authorities to identify pollution hotspots, anticipate pollution episodes and plan timely interventions. The initiative builds on CABL, a multi-stakeholder platform conceptualised by Cummins in India, CII and NITI Aayog to address air pollution through focused action on clean transport, clean fuel, clean industry and biomass management.

Since its launch, the CABL initiative has reached more than one lakh farmers, helped prevent the burning of 6.4 lakh tonnes of crop residue, conserved 71 billion litres of water and reduced an estimated 1.3 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. The programme has also expanded its outreach to 432 villages, covering more than 4.8 lakh acres.

The DSS was launched at the Clean Air Forum in the presence of government officials, industry representatives, academia and civil society organisations, highlighting the role of public-private collaboration in advancing technology-led solutions for cleaner urban environments.
