Building Equipment that Travels

India’s ambition to become a global manufacturing powerhouse is closely linked to the future of its infrastructure. Roads, highways, airports, industrial corridors and urban infrastructure will require not only greater investment, but also a new generation of construction equipment capable of delivering higher productivity, greater efficiency and lower environmental impact.

At Ammann India, we believe India has the potential to become much more than one of the world’s largest construction-equipment markets. It can become a global centre for the development, manufacture and export of construction equipment and technology.

Our experience in India demonstrates what this transition can look like: combine global engineering expertise with Indian manufacturing capability, local application knowledge and a deep understanding of customer requirements.

From Indian Manufacturing to Global Capability

Ammann has been associated with road-building technology globally for more than 150 years. In India, that global heritage is combined with the strong market presence and engineering legacy of Apollo.

Today, Ammann India’s manufacturing facility at Mehsana, Gujarat, represents this combination of global and Indian capabilities. The facility manufactures asphalt mixing plants, pavers, compactors and other road-construction equipment for the Indian as well as international markets.

A significant milestone in this journey has been achieving up to 95 per cent localisation in our manufacturing. This is more than a measure of local sourcing. It represents the development of a strong Indian ecosystem of suppliers, engineering capabilities, manufacturing processes and technical expertise.

For us, localisation is not simply about assembling globally designed products in India.

True localisation means building engineering, manufacturing, testing, supply-chain and application capabilities in India—while maintaining global standards of quality and performance.

This approach has also strengthened India's role within Ammann’s global manufacturing network.

From “Made in India” to “Made for the World”

The success of Indian manufacturing should ultimately be measured not only by its ability to serve domestic demand, but also by its ability to compete internationally.

Ammann India is already taking this journey.

Our equipment manufactured in India is exported to markets across East Asia, the Middle East, East Africa and Latin America. Serving them successfully requires much more than cost competitiveness. It requires consistent quality, engineering reliability, robust manufacturing processes, product adaptability, international standards and dependable lifecycle support.

The fact that equipment manufactured in India is serving customers across such diverse geographies demonstrates the growing capability of India's construction-equipment manufacturing ecosystem.

The opportunity now is to take this capability further.

Engineering for India’s Realities

Indian infrastructure projects present unique challenges. Equipment must operate across widely varying climatic conditions, demanding project schedules, diverse material characteristics and different levels of operator experience.

Ammann India’s product strategy has therefore evolved around a simple principle: global technology must be adapted to local realities without compromising global standards.

Our asphalt plant portfolio, for example, combines the established Apollo product heritage with Ammann technology in areas such as automation, recycling, fuel efficiency and emissions control.

The objective is not technology for technology’s sake. It is technology that delivers measurable value to the customer—higher plant availability, consistent mix quality, lower operating costs and greater productivity.

That philosophy is reflected in the Ammann Productivity Partnership for a Lifetime approach.

Digitalisation is changing the Definition of Productivity

The construction equipment industry is moving from mechanical productivity to intelligent productivity.

At Ammann, the as1 Control System is central to this transition for asphalt mixing plants. It integrates automation and process control to help operators achieve consistent production and optimise plant performance.

The next generation of connected equipment will take this further through telematics, remote monitoring, data-driven maintenance and predictive insights.

For India, this transformation is particularly significant.

A connected machine can provide information about utilisation, operating parameters, maintenance requirements and performance. For fleet owners and contractors, this can turn equipment data into actionable business intelligence.

The future will therefore not be defined simply by how much equipment a manufacturer sells. It will be defined by how much productivity that equipment delivers throughout its operating life.

Sustainability Has to Work on the Jobsite

For Ammann India, sustainability is not a separate technology agenda. It is increasingly integrated into the engineering of road-construction equipment.

Asphalt recycling is a particularly important opportunity.

Ammann's recycling technologies enable reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) to be incorporated into new asphalt mixes while maintaining production performance and mix quality. High-recycling configurations can significantly increase the proportion of reclaimed material used in asphalt production.

This has direct relevance for India. Greater utilisation of reclaimed material can reduce the requirement for virgin aggregates and bitumen while supporting a more circular approach to road construction.

Similarly, energy-efficient drying technologies, advanced burners, emission-control systems and alternative fuels can help reduce the environmental footprint of asphalt production.

The future of sustainable road construction will depend on making such technologies commercially viable, operationally practical and scalable.

Sustainability must ultimately improve resource efficiency without compromising productivity.

Preparing India for the Next Generation of Equipment

Construction equipment is only as productive as the people operating and maintaining it. Recognising this, Ammann India has developed training capabilities through the Ammann Academy, providing operators and technicians with structured training programs designed to improve machine and plant performance. This becomes increasingly important as equipment becomes more sophisticated.

Tomorrow’s operator will need to understand not only machine operation, but also electronic controls, automation, diagnostics and data. Similarly, service technicians will need skills spanning mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and digital systems.

Developing this talent pool will be essential if India is to fully realise the productivity benefits of advanced construction equipment.

Building a Globally Competitive Ecosystem

India's construction-equipment opportunity extends beyond individual manufacturers. A globally competitive industry requires strong component suppliers, technology partners, skilled manpower, financing solutions, rental ecosystems, service networks and research capabilities.

The combination of a large domestic market and growing export opportunity provides Indian manufacturers with something extremely valuable: scale with global exposure.

The domestic market provides the volume and diversity to develop and validate products. International markets provide the benchmark against which Indian manufacturing and engineering capabilities can be measured.

This creates a virtuous cycle—greater localisation enables greater competitiveness; greater competitiveness enables greater exports; and greater exports create the scale to invest further in technology and manufacturing.

Mission 2030: Productivity with Purpose

For Ammann India, Mission 2030 is ultimately about one thing: enabling infrastructure to be built better. This will be achieved by better productivity, better resource utilisation, better energy efficiency, better recycling and better machine intelligence.

India has the market scale to become a global construction-equipment powerhouse. But scale alone will not be enough. The winners will be manufacturers that combine localisation with global engineering, innovation with practicality, sustainability with productivity, and machines with the people and services required to make those machines perform.

Ammann India’s journey demonstrates that this transformation is already underway. India is increasingly becoming not just a market for construction equipment, but a source of globally competitive construction equipment manufacturing.

Mission 2030 is therefore not simply about making more equipment in India. It is about making India a source of construction-equipment innovation, manufacturing excellence and technology for the world.

That is the future we are building towards.

And it is a future we believe India is fully capable of delivering.
