JCB returns to US paving with 2 tandem-drum compactors
JCB has announced its return to the North American paving market by introducing two new tandem-drum compactors. The CT160 and CT260, designed for user-friendly operation, sustained productivity throughout the day, low maintenance, and operator comfort, have already been available in markets outside North America. JCB states that in certain regions, these machines have captured nearly 25 per cent of sales. The unveiling of these compactors at Pave/X 2024, according to the company, sets the stage for the introduction of an extensive range of compaction equipment.
The newly introduced tandem rollers will once again carry the Vibromax branding, following JCB's acquisition of the German company in 2005. Weighing between 3,770 to 6,041 pounds, these machines can be easily transported on trailers. The CT160 provides a choice between a 31.5-inch and a 39.3-inch drum, while the CT260 features a 47.2-inch drum.
The CT160 is equipped with a three-cylinder, 19.8-horsepower engine, while the CT260 models are powered by a 3-cylinder, 24.4-horsepower engine. Both machines feature a directional drive lever that ensures smooth movements forward and backward. When viewed from above, the CT160 and CT260 present an hourglass profile, offering operators a clear sight of the drum edges.
JCB highlights that the control panels of these machines have easily understandable work modes, and the switches are designed to provide positive tactile feedback, even when operated with gloved hands. Additionally, anti-vibration mounts have been incorporated to reduce operator fatigue by isolating them from the vibrations of the drum.
