Cat 303.5 CR Mini Excavator Gets Software Upgrade
Caterpillar has rolled out a new software update for its 303.5 CR mini excavator, designed to deliver faster transient speed and increased productivity compared with previous next-generation models. According to Greg Worley, Market Professional for Cat Mini Excavators, the 2025 version achieves a 35 per cent productivity boost and 25 per cent faster transient speed. “When we talk about transient speed, we’re not talking about top speed—we’re talking about how you get from 0 to 60,” Worley explained in a LinkedIn video.
The enhanced transient performance enables the excavator to accelerate from zero to full speed more quickly, allowing faster repositioning and reducing idle time. The model retains a top travel speed of 2.8 mph. The latest software version is compatible with all next-generation builds manufactured between 2021 and 2024 and can be accessed via the operating monitor. Customers can contact their Cat dealer to install the update.
Key features of the 303.5 CR include heavy-lifting capability with the ability to lift, swing and carry a standard 2,450-pound street plate. Its compact-radius swing design minimises overhang, making it ideal for confined spaces. The optional stick-steer travel mode allows operators to switch from traditional lever controls to joystick operation for smoother manoeuvring and blade control.
The excavator’s comfortable and intuitive cab comes in both canopy and sealed configurations, with optional air-conditioning, adjustable wrist rests and suspension seating. The next-generation LCD monitor provides essential machine data, with an advanced touchscreen option available. Maintenance has also been simplified—checkpoints are reachable from ground level, while the tilt-up cab or canopy design offers easy access to key service areas.
