Polymatech to Set Up Rs 1.14 Bn Semiconductor Plant in Chhattisgarh
India’s first semiconductor chip manufacturer, Polymatech Electronics, will establish a Semiconductor Chips and Advanced Packaging Unit in Chhattisgarh’s Nava Raipur.
The Chennai-based company will set up a semiconductor plant focused on Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology, powering 5G and 6G advancements. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai will conduct the ‘Bhoomipujan’ and lay the foundation stone on April 11. The plant, with an investment of Rs 1.14 billion, is expected to create significant employment opportunities in the state.
Highlighting the investment potential in the semiconductor and electronics sector, CM Sai stated, “The state is ready to offer policy support, tax incentives, infrastructure development, and special facilities to the semiconductor sector under the Make in India and Digital India initiatives.”
This move aligns with the Union Government’s vision to boost high-tech industries and promote deep-tech innovation in the country. Polymatech Electronics, with a presence in the US and Bahrain, signed an investment deal with the Chhattisgarh government during the ‘Investor Connect’ event in New Delhi in December 2024.
Semiconductors, considered the backbone of digital technology, play a crucial role in the IT sector.
"The Chhattisgarh government acted swiftly, allotting 150,000 square feet of land in Sector-5, Nava Raipur, through a tender by the Nava Raipur Development Authority. This public-private partnership aims to position Chhattisgarh as a key player in India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem,” said an official spokesperson to The New Indian Express.
Eswara Rao Nandam, Managing Director & CEO of Polymatech Electronics, added, “As India heads towards becoming a global semiconductor leader, with the market projected to reach $64 billion by 2026, this facility will support Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India, reducing import reliance while strengthening domestic manufacturing.”
Rajat Kumar, Secretary of the Commerce and Industry Department, noted that the collaboration will enhance Chhattisgarh’s global semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.
